toxic players
As an OG player that has played the first helldivers multiple years ago and have been a fan of arrowhead for years, I fear that the game possibly going mainstream may bring in the toxic players from cod or fortnite or any competitive game tbh. What I loved about helldivers was how nice everyone was when I solo-queued, so seeing the game becoming super popular and bringing in new players somewhat scares me a bit. I just hope the community doesn't turn into a toxic cess pit.

What are your thoughts? :cozycrashfish:

I think the game heavily encourages teamwork in a lot of its mechanics, I feel like if people want to win, they'll have to work together.

As far as i see here on the forums, the actually OG Helldiver fans are the most toxic here right now.

But important to mention that if take other games like Darktide for example, the extreme toxicity on the forum isn't reflected actually in game. So there is still hope.

I really don't think this game will sell millions of copies for a while, it's not going to bring the cod and fortnite fans at all.

Would still most likely be a useless teammate so... doesn't help that much.
People who insult are people who're bad at learning stuff most of the time.
What you discribe is kinda just a simple badword filter.

There are less toxic players than you think, all the losers who complain about the game in these forums are only a .01% of the actual community.

Unfortunately, for a good game to mature, it has to pass the rite of ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. So if this game survives what is to come (and good prediction btw), it will be better than the first, because it will have more people playing and most likely receive more content and updates.

Anything with friendly fire is open to trolls. Ran into it in Sniper Elite 4 and EDF on PS4. On SE4, survival has FF on by default and ♥♥♥♥♥ you XP if you use custom settings. People join in, spawn in, and immediately team kill. Yeah, you can boot them, but they always come back. You literally have to keep your own list of trolls so you can kick them before they spawn in.

It's ridiculous there's no proper block features in gaming. On, PSN blocking people only blocks private messaging, not even game char. Look what I ran into the other night. Useless player with no armor wanted carried on high level inferno, booted, and he comes back to spam text while we're on mission. No way to prevent it. https://viper.shadowflareindustries.com/images/edf/edf41-troll.jpg

The other thing that really pisses me off in co-op games is the clowns that put up public lobbies but only want friends in them. Like they're too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ dumb to tweak the settings for a private lobby.

Yeah i really hope they have a real blocking feature. Most coop games i play do, even those without FF.
Blocking features that prevent ever seeing a player again.
But i'm not that familiar how Sony handles this stuff or if they get involved much with these things at all.

There is always gonna be toxic players in any online game... I have played online games since MuDs. I can only hope(I guess), that I can find some fun in this game and not have to many encounters with them.

The good thing is that most of the toxic people here have voiced that they won't install the game, so we will mostly be safe.

I think you're absolutely right in your assumptions.

The community already is quite toxic due to a small dissonance between people that care about certain things, and others who not only not care about those things, but go out of their way to make sure the people that do care about those things get hammered down.
It's usually the mainstream that doesn't care but goes out of their way to make sure those that do care are made to feel as a pariah.
A good example is n protect. If you don't care, then don't. No one needs to hear your opinion about not caring. It's irrelevant to the highest degree. And to twist that opinion into actually opposing something you don't care about just shows what a hypocrite you are. Naysaying and being overly negative just to get an irrelevant and futile point across. The point of "I don't care! But I want everyone to be a copy of me, so no one should care. If you do care, I'm here to tell you you're WRONG. Join me or be dead to me!"... which feels like the general consensus among all those that oppose any opinion of any kind, at least on Steam Forums.

When is the last time you saw someone say "I don't agree with you, but I support to the fullest extend your right the opposite opinion." or anything even remotely along those lines? It's not gonna happen on Steam, and with Mainstream audiences being toxic by default, as it's mostly CoD kiddies and Fortnite kiddies that have had little to no parenting outside of a phone strapped to their faces.

Honestly? Like 7 hours ago...

I respect your decision to not buy the game because of this and i respect your right to come here and complain about it for a while with the hope to trigger some kind of positive change.
But i really hope for you that if that change doesn't come you can get over it at some point and i don't see you crying about it here in a month from now like i've seen so many people int he Darktide forums.
I had a nice heated but not too hostile debate with 2 people about the anti-cheat and we all wen't our ways friendly and still with different opinions at the end.

I read and write alot in the steam forums expecially in release times like this and if you don't engage with the hostile nature of most debates and try to stay objective and in good faith as much as your biases allow you will find people who are also interested in an exchange about opinions and not just in a fight.
Other than you i think everybody has the right to voice their opinions, the ones that care, the ones that don't care, the ones that kinda care but think others care too much, hell even the trolls to an extend.
It's an open forum and i'd like to see the amout of trolls in a community when i look at the forums because that in itself says something about the community often times.
There is nothing to gain by sanitising the community discorse in any way.
