Anyone else think the "Automatons" was tamed down hard from Cyborgs faction
Not gonna pretend they were soft on the themes in the first Helldivers, but the whole "Red" faction is Cyborgs, the whole chunky thick steel, built like tank war machines, was great.

They weren't subtle, and it provided a great point that the "Red" faction was even against Super Earth ideals, stating "Super Earth's ideals are a lie and the people are brain washed"(literally wiki'd it), bloody great and on point like, yeah they are pretty damn brainwashed, but at least they aren't horrifyingly grafted onto machines. I bet there was some irony mixed into the whole cybernetic transformation and if they did some Strogg style brainwashing, but I ain't a genres buff.

So now we got the fully robotic Automaton Faction, with the added skulls from something out of Warhammer 40k Dreadnoughts or some kind of combat servitor. I'll bet they're pretty much these though, after looking around a bit seems there is some consensus that they're probably still humans that's gone full 'borg, but overall seems it's a bit left to speculation until we tactical nuke their bunkers.

Plus someone mentioned the skulls on one of the Automaton types is a trophy on a spike, which makes total sense.

Edit: I guess the Cyborgs are just Socialist Robots now? Still not a lot of details, but it sounds like they're gonna end up with just robots, since that's the super tame version of basically Geth from mass effect.

Cyborgs at least implanted the image of a misguided and twisted vision of Socialism, like a parallel to Super Earth, since they were humans who took a twisted vision of "Freedom" but were likely just as indoctrinated as Super Earth citizens, like cogs in the machine, but Cyborgs took it literally, becoming the parallel..

Guess it's just me

It could be called tamed. It could also be a artistic decision. The cyborgs are just rebels, likely long since culled if we think of helldivers in a story sense. It could also be because they had a new direction they wanted to go, or new ideas instead of just rehashing a 2nd faction, like they had with the terminids.

I'd like to think they ARE the Cyborg, or rather they have managed to attain their ideal "the flesh is weak" mindset by becoming robots or something like 90% Machines like Robocop, they still have tanks, dropships, walkers used by foot soldiers and they use the same symbol more or less than the Cyborg from before

It is less fleshy and gory. Bit less Flayed Ones from 40k and a bit more Robocop, now. The melee dudes with the bladed arms just have the top of a human head sticking out of a bolt on a metal chest, so it's still pretty gooey.

Nah, that ain't the top of a human head sticking out dude, check it out, it's some white metal casing. That, or they pumped the shine hard on the metallic textures. Plus it's got a seam line.

Also I agree under the metal casing it looks pretty "gooey" but check out the images at the end, you can see it's just some red tubes and red wires. Now while artistic right (forget what its called) it could be they are actually tubes pumping blood, we haven't really seen any evidence to support that, and would probably have to wait until Lore files get dumped onto the web and into the community.

It looks like we're just getting the Geth from Mass Effect, but they're socialists.

No longer humans who took a twisted vision of "Freedom" but were likely just as indoctrinated as Super Earth citizens, like cogs in the machine, but Cyborgs took it literally, becoming the parallel.

Welp, time to deliver EMPs to the socialist Automatons!!!

Been thinking. The new blog post says the automaton symbol is familiar. Have these cyborgs achieved singularity?
Dang commiebots!

I was thinking that they could be made by the cyborgs possibly. There was a video were a Dev was saying these are the automatons not the cyborgs and they have mentioned that they will be adding more enemy factions.

Yeah, looking at those images, you're right.

It's a weird choice to turn the communist cyborgs into socialist robots.

As long as the dogs aren't in the game again i'll be happy.

So looks like the IGN folks were right for once and the game really will have only 2 enemy factions?
Man what a shame

Wager the quality of the factions is higher however. Give it time, I suspect a 3rd wont be far in coming.
