The disrespect you're showing to the fan base is incredible. So many years of playing offline helldivers at a friend's house with crappy Internet... That future for this game is gone if you continue down this road.
So many people here and on Reddit are stating their disappointment and their cancelling of pre orders/boycott.

So many of us are sick of this always online no matter what crap. I am a die hard fan of HD1 but even I am not wanting to "rent" this game.
I don't want root level anti cheat deep diving into my computer either.
Why are you so dead set on burning all the goodwill you've built up? Is it the MTX money?

Reverse the anti cheat and allow us to play offline without an Internet connection. This is what people want.
We want to support you guys but this is not it..
I don't want to "rent" or allow you to "allow" me to play the game I payed for, and then when the servers go down or my Internet goes down I can no longer play the game I own.

I see some of you mentioning "it's multiplayer, get friends, cry more, doesn't matter etc.."
So I just wanted to add some responses rather than respond individually to each.

1) All those shiny new steam decks where those who travel and take them with you, well no wifi no steam deck play (if it will even be compatible due to the kernel level anti-cheat, another knock against that lol.)

2) I've played Helldivers 1 online and offline with, AND without friends.. Solo, not solo.
Why all you salty folks want LESS flexibility to play years from now, where you want, and LESS ownership over your games is wild to me. Why
The game does not need to be online only. This was a choice made by Sony or Arrowhead.

3) Like many have mentioned both on reddit and on steam.. This anticheat is overkill for a PVE only game. You will typically see this type of anticheat more so in very high stakes PVPVE/PVP only multiplayer games.
AND mind you this in combination WITH online only. I think people may be more understanding if only one of these things were to be in the game: Online only OR Anticheat/DRM.
Instead arrowhead has implemented both which is extreme overkill for this type of non competitive game. Clearly this is to protect the MTXs. All of you playing defense for this type of anti consumer gaming is very surprising.


4)Multiplayer games do not need to be online only. some people play with AI teammates (yes I'm aware that's not how this game or HD1 works, but many other games function this way offline.) Some people do not live in a place with consistent internet. Just because of where you live has great internet, doesn't mean that the rest of the US or the world has equally good internet. Unless you want me to move into your house for free.... I'm not moving just because I want to play some online only game that doesn't need to be that way in the first place! I've lived in big cities where the internet still sucks. So don't throw that "move out of the barn" arguments :>

You did realize Helldivers 1 was online only before, right? Their mistake when they ported it to PC was inadequate anti-cheat. And more so, it is absolutely required if they're doing cross-play for Helldivers 2. PS5 may not suffer as much on its own but if they to share with us on PC, its a necessity. Although the only iffy part is the choice of Anticheat but even then, this uproar is easily excessive and unwarranted.

The anticheat is of little matter; those are everywhere these days, and the vast majority of anticheat solutions are kernel-level. Everyone has probably played a game with such a solution at one point or another.

Also, the monetization seems fine. And it's a game they want to support long-term. Contrary to what most people believe, game sales are -not- the strongest source of revenue, and supporting and developing content for games costs big money.

People are greatly exaggerating how big these issues actually are.

Helldivers 1 works offline fine.

This level of anticheat isn't going to deter people who want to cheat. It will however harm legit players by having this level of trash malware installed. Should i post some videos of all the kernel level anti cheat games with hacks? ain't going to change a thing.
