TUNIC
Tunic won't start properly
Hi all,
I bought Tunic some days ago with the spring sale and I found myself loving it.
I played every day until yesterday when the game didn't launch properly. I click "PLAY", the screen makes a flash and the window is shown in my taskbar, then the screen goes black and I'm returned to the steam page, with the game running and the app in the taskbar, but if I try to click it it goes to black screen again and them takes me back to steam (while telling me the game is running).

I tried everything.
Restarting my pc, rebooting steam, checking the integrity of local files, uninstalling and re-installing the game.. Everything seems ok on the surface, but the game doesn't start.

Actually, sometimes it does and I can play properly for a full session (this was yesterday), but today I wasn't able to play at all, I've been trying for two hours now.

If it helps, yesterday it booted in window mode, like it reset my settings. I then went and change to fullscreen, but when I changed the refresh rate from 165Hz (default) to 120, it broke and the same error in which i get a black screen occurred.

If anyone experienced the same, kindly share your experience!
If I can provide more details, don't hesistate in asking.

Finally, please don't spoil anything, I just started playing!

Thank to anyone who will lend a hand!!

I assume you're playing on Windows?
I have zero idea where the settings file is located on Windows (or even on Linux through Proton), but maybe you could try to delete it and see if it (temporarily) fixes your issue.
(You might need to temporarily deactivate Steam Cloud to prevent it from overwriting your changes.)

Also, have you tried updating/reinstalling your drivers?

Thanks a lot for the answer!

Yes, I am playing on Windows and yesterday (after 3 hours) i got it to work (i don't know why).

I'm starting to think it is an issue tied to my monitor. I play on a 2k MSI Gaming Monitor, connected to my laptop (I have a HP Omen with a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 Super Max-Q Design); the card, nor the pc, never failed me and I use it to run all sorts of games, so I feel it's quite strange it is not working with a game like Tunic.

Anyway, to answer your question, I did updated my drivers, and also tried to update DirectX and things like that.

I would like to find a permanent solution, just out of curiosity, but leaving the session yesterday I set the game in windowed mode before quitting; I run the game now and it seems to work fine, so I guess I will play it in window mode, or se it up each time I quit the game. It's a proxy solution, but it works ahah.

Anyway if you or anyone else has some more insights on this I would love to hear it, maybe I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks again for the answer @Perseus!
