The name I think it might be Hero.
The gender maybe male, then again it could be vague so that the player projects what he or she wants.

Just pitching my two cents...
Pretty sure both of those are left ambiguous, I've never seen anything that even remotely hints at an answer to either question, not within the game itself anyway. :cryptothink:

The gender is the one you like, it´s a neutral character. Anyone can identify.

I think the closest the PC gets to a name is Heir-to-the-Heir.

I see I guess it’s the same as frisk from undertale (whether frisk is boy or girl) but I’m gonna seeing a fox as a girl (wish they the fox a name tho.)

The fox is referred to as Ruin Seeker/Rune Seeker in the manual, but no name is given.

No gender is specified either, but I took the fox to be male. There is a difference in the shape of the foxes faces in general, and some seemed more feminine (the Heir), while other like the player-character seem more masculine. But I suppose it's up to the player to decide.

One of the things about using non-human characters in games like this, it can be easier to design a character to be more ambiguous without it being as odd to the human mind. Barring animals with distinct sexual dimorphism (and even then in some cases of younger individuals), it's harder for humans to tell if an animal is male or female without actually being able to inspect them up close enough (and sometimes not even then). Cattle? Sure, that's easy enough for long-distance identification. But foxes, coyotes, wolves, etc? That's something that would need a trained wildlife expert to tell at a distance. Add in the color change room, and it's easy enough to customize the fox to suit how you think they are.

The manual refers to them as "Heir-to-the-Heir" most of the time.
NPCs refer to them as "the Hero"
They're apparently called "Ruin/Rune Seeker" according to admiral1018 whom I do not feel like trying to verify at the moment.
IGN refered to the character as Tunic.

As for gender I'm pretty sure they don't offically have one, nor does the Heir unless someone like the person who translated most of the manual to English might have something to say about our attempts at gendering the characters.

The only character I can recall a specific gender for anywhere in the manual or anywhere else in the game's text is the Scavenger Boss.

After reading it and then taking another look at her, it was more obvious than I thought. :Garbo:

It's strange but I sware when I first fought her I kept calling her a her despite me never looking at the manual for that information. Now I'm confused how I knew and kept saying "Oh she is going down this time" while struggling at her.
The Fox is non-binary. So refreshing to find such a progressive game to enjoy.

Unspecified gender does not mean non-binary.

Also, the term "heir" is a gendered masculine term, which would imply that both the player-character and main antagonist are male. However, this is vague enough that you can substitute your preferred choice if you want.

The main character has a variety of titles that have already been discussed here, but the creators have given it neither an official name nor an official sex or gender.

Call it whatever you like, just be mindful that others may call it something else, for any number of reasons, and remember that technically neither of you are right or wrong.

The term "heir" is used to describe one as being the inheritor to something. It is as a result not gendered.
It would seem be masculine if you are talking about primogeniture which traditionally goes for the eldest male son to inherit the throne, but we aren't talking about the history of royal lines.

I'd just like to point out that "heiress" is a word, as well, a distinctly feminine take on "heir". So, y'know.
Still, it wouldn't be the first shortcut the in-game language has taken. :epiwink:
