You're right, pages 48 and 49 *are* vitally important to solving the golden path. You should be able to find them if you utilize your new movement ability in already explored areas. The manual also holds information to obtaining the second ending, which may be hard to understand at first, but is absolutely needed. Take a close look at it's illustrations and the notes scribbled beside them. You don't actually need to translate anything; if you're observant and willing to experiment a little, you should figure it out soon enough.
Edit: Once you do figure it out, maybe prepare some pen and paper for some serious puzzle solving.
I've been looking for 3 days and no pages. I found 4 of those specials treasures before I found these last pages. Beginning to believe they don't exist without doing a New game+ run or something
Spoilers, obviously.
Pages 43 & 44 of the manual hold the key. Compare the image in the lower right corner with your map, and see if anything looks familiar.
Pay close attention to the clues scattered around those pages, they contain important information.
That's what ive been stuck on so far, I just cannot for the life of me find these pages to start the puzzles on.
