Has Anyone Traveled the Golden Path?

Or if you are stuck too maybe we can work things out.
Also if you're just browsing major end game puzzle spoilers here.

So I've beaten the Heir and now am trying for the true ending.
The game prompts me to travel the golden path and I've been puzzling away for quite a while so I'm looking for straight up help.

Where I'm stuck:
I've gotten the golden road alternate save but can't figure out the code to progress past the loop. My best guess has been iterations of the directions you travel to go through it with the start being where you load in and the end being where you get the next loading screen so: up - left - up - right - right - up - left - up. This is treating the cross in the path you encounter half way through as a mark for an extra code input the same as other locations. This is not advancing anything for me. I've done other messing around and tried the code using different starting positions, and also tried the code from the windmill and other notations on the "memo" pages in the instruction manual.

What else I've done:
I have pages 2-53 of the manual on my main save, I'm assuming that page 1 is part of the final collectithon.
I've hit gold in all my stats from the hero shrine.
I've started the final collection marathon, though honestly the thought of going back through the entire game looking for squiggles on the floor and walls seems kind of disheartening.
I've gotten the code from the windmill though not figured out where to use it.
I'm stuck on the mountain door, also it seems a little confusing what the relationship is between the mountain door and the golden path, because there are references in gold to page 49 which appears right next to the mountain door but is also an odd puzzle.

The secret gathering of the fairies and hitting 100% on the game seems to extra and not actually part of solving the golden path puzzle.

Anyone have any leads for me?

This was my favorite puzzle in the game, which I was very proud of solving by myself with enough patience and observation.

Page 49 is the golden path you seek as you already started to figure out. It refers entirely to the manual. Start from page 12 and look very closely...

By the way, you need to find at least 10 fairies for the true ending.
