Hint on page 1
Obviously spoilers if you want to try to solve this puzzle for yourself
So it's well documented that to get the hidden text on page 1 to appear, you need to turn off game sound and stand in the puddle in the middle of that path that's golden on the map in the main area for 60 seconds. At least, that's what every guide I see says, but that just seems blatantly wrong? You have to stand there to input the code, but standing in water anywhere for 60 seconds reveals the text, and turning off the game sound doesn't seem to do anything at all. Do people say this because page 51 says "Shhh..."? Because as far as I can tell, that's just because it's a secret.

Is this a case where the first guide included unnecessary steps and every other guide copied it? Did it used to be more restrictive and it was patched to be easier? Is there something I'm missing here?

Side note, does anyone have any thoughts on the hint itself? It seems exceptionally vague compared to other secret treasures to me, requiring you to translate the language and then make a leap between "corrected 11 times" and "departed once more" to pressing right 11 times and then left 12, the connection there seems very thin to me. I definitely would never have been able to even get the hint without a guide, as I don't have the skills to translate this language, I wouldn't even know where to start. Is it supposed to be a community thing?
Feel free to let me know if there's something I've missed or misinterpreted here, it doesn't seem like I have but I'm not perfect.

yeah the game is supposed to be community driven to complete the book and etc, the entire thing has been translated already, and yes you do need to turn off the sound because of the SHHH hint. stand in the water for 1 min, open the page and the new reveals itself. etc etc. it was all pretty neat tbh

My point is that turning off the sound isn't needed for the hint to appear, and doesn't seem to change anything from having it on
I was wondering if it was some kind of myth, or if turning off the sound affects something else I've missed

YES!

Exactly my thoughts! I did not turn off the sound and it worked, so I guess we are right about the "SHH".
And I don't see the connection between the hidden message with the actual code.

I get the connection after being told the code, but probably wouldn't have thought of it myself

"The softest feather
corrected eleven times
departed once more"

First line - according to google, one meaning of "down" is "the soft layer of feathers closest to birds' skin", which is why something soft might be called "downy", so the softest feather would be "down"
Second line - to be correct can be called being right, so you could say "corrected" and "righted" are synonyms of a sort, thus "righted eleven times" meaning press right that many times
Third line - similar deal, "departed" and "left" are synonyms, with the "once more" referring to the number of eleven from the previous line, leading to pressing left twelve times, "once more" than eleven

There is a logic to it, it's just an obscure one based on wordplay, the devs might've planned for people who didn't get it to look it up considering most people will need to look up the translation anyway

I fixated on the wrong thing with this one for so long because there are eight characters in the message that are missing a part of the "horizon" line and I was convinced there was something steganographically encoded in them. That is not the case, it's just a riddle.

To avoid just giving it away outright:
1. The softest feather, - soft feathers are "down", as goose down/a down pillow
2. corrected eleven times, - "corrected" as in "right", eleven times
3. departed once more. - "departed" as in "left", once more than previous, i.e. twelve times

Definitely the hardest of the secret treasures though.

The right and left part now makes sense to me, but I didn't know about that feather stuff. Maybe I should practice more english...
Hmmm... i am two years late to this thread, just came to this part in the game, and I translate it as '..collected eleven times..'sibce there is no stroke on top of the 'l' which woulf render it 'corrected' as y'all seem to agree. As far as the puzzle itself is concerned, I am at a loss to grasp the haiku's meaning.

You're mistaken about the translation. The first compound symbol has the "K" sound as the consonant surrounded by an "or" sounding vowel. There is no "L" at all in the word.

Thank you for taking the time to point that out and clear things up for me, Sharkman:)
