Since you need to know all angles, it is good to play all characters or just spam random.

For learning the basics Id say Raptor is a good choice, he is a very straight forward character and has great movement and also some neat tricks.
raptor is a solid choice, i learned with Candyman myself, it feels like his swing has a bit of a wind up.

From my reddit post on the subject...

If you want to do what I did...

Goal 1: Beat Arcade Mode without using continues with every single character.

Goal 2: Beat every level 7 AI with a main of your choice.

Goal 3: Take your main online to ranked and only play your main for the first 50 hours.

Goal 4: Random button in ranked for 50 hours.

Goal 5: Dedicate 10-20 hours with every character in ranked play.

By this point you've learned what you're weak at and what you need to focus on.

To explain the point of each goal...

Goal 1: This is to get your familiar with every character. Familiar enough that you can at least play against them at a basic level.

Goal 2: This allows you to learn how to beat fairly tough opponents while keeping your own options static.

Goal 3: This allows you to get used to playing in the lag that is the internet while observing and attempting to learn the tech of other players.

Goal 4: This allows you to adapt on the fly and to help you retrain yourself with each character. It will also allow you to notice the more subtle differences between the characters like their movement speeds.

Goal 5: This allows you to build an advanced familiarity with every character.

Also after all is said and done, try not to get frustrated. Remember that some people played the first game for upwards of 3,000 hours before Blaze released and they already have hundreds of hours in Blaze as well.

If you're having an off day, don't be afraid to just walk away from the game for that day.

And remember, that you only need to practice a skill for 15-30 minutes. The rest will be internalized when you sleep. Sleeping is an important part to both learning and development!
thank you so much! i will keep this guide in mind, im glad this community is so helpful to new players!
