I agree, Tama's speech pattern is obnoxious. The worst part is that is entirely the fault of the translators, or whoever told them to translate it that way, considering Tama doesn't even talk like that in Japanese. :P Let alone the other characters. It's just to make it "cuter for da kids" I guess. (Kids probably find it annoying too)

necroing this thread just to ask..how does Tama talk in japanese ?Would someone who understands the japanese give a rough explanation of what the random insertion of "the" is supposed to emulate ? What does it the say in japanese?
I´m always the curious when originaly japanese speaking chars do these weird things that happens every so often esp in jRPG´s ..or are there things you the can do in japanese the language that just doesn´t translate to anything that makes the sense in english so the translators just makes the something up to the fill the void?

(sorry couldn´t the help myself)

Haha I agree Tama the doesn't the speak the right way. At first I was like okay due to all the cuteness then I got over the cuteness of the game and was like wow this character is super insanely annoying where's the mute button on her x.x

Before I play a new game I always browse the discussions first. As soon as I read this topic, I immediately switched the voice to Japanese. Thank you for the heads up. I can barely tolerate reading the way it's written, but having to listen to that would be unbearable.

Playing with English text and Japanese voice also revealed a false translation. When Lann is speaking to the Quacho Queen at some point in the game, he says "Arigatou na!" which of course means "Thank you!". In English it is translated as "I love you!". It's one thing to spice up the translation (which is basically required for Japanese); it's entirely another to fabricate the dialogue for cheap comedic effect. Overall I enjoyed this game, but there are a lot of things that rubbed me the wrong way and that's one of them.

That is not true, you can't translate Japanese literally in this case. It's like when Yuna use it in FFX, it's a Thank you that means I love you. And that's why profesionnal ppl translate games.

That's funny in french Tama ends his sentences with "voilà" ( More explanations about the meaning here[www.thoughtco.com] ) and Lann thanks Quacho Queen there is nothing about love. The comedic is about Lann who doesn't understand that she has a crush on him that's why Reyn said : "Les filles sont parfois compliquées." (Girls are sometimes complicated).

I had not realized this game had all these language options. As an educated man, that is helpful to me. Thank you. Have a cookie. :2015cookie:

The translation of WoFF must have been a nightmare. Humour is already hard to translate but here we have to kinfd jokes : wordplay (language) and situaltion comedy (dependent of the culture). It doesn't suprise me that some translations create some differences about the interpretation of this kind of scene.
