Especially a Cactuar paired with a Mist Dragon is a fantastic combination and it looks nice too.
I'm also a very big fan of Mishiva and Zaphyr, cute and useful both. Not so much Affrite though.
Oh, and I love Undead Princess, she made me laugh a lot harder than I ever expected.
Idk, personal preference. I have always loved Holy and Ice spells
Otherwise i also really like the Robot ( evolution from Tech Armor ).
But hey, havent finished the game yet :)
As far as looks go, I really like the entire Shiva line.
Looks > Stats/skills.
I hate when things don't match or just look weird. Like stacking a unicorn on your head. It just kinda floats and looks stupid. Nothing in the M size looks right.
(had the same issue with just about every half-way decent costume in Lightning Returns so it made the game a tad more difficult than it needed to be at times.)
Ever since the beginning where Tama was stacked on top of Lann's head, I just accepted that as okay and didn't really have a problem with having things on your head. Serafie helped too with her mysterious trinkets on top of her head. It's just like, things can be on top of your head here and it not be weird. Stacking Mist Dragon and Cactuar is one of my favorite stacks, too, so I feel like that may have something to do with my preference. But I do agree the idea that you're riding the large Mirages is a nice aesthetic, but I found their usefulness kind of tapered off the further into the game you got. Being held by Ifrit/Ramuh/Shiva was also pretty cool.
I guess it depends on your own personal sensibilities, but I didn't have that problem. I really liked L'ange Noir, so it was my primary running around garb for a good while from the very start of the game. I replaced it with Passion Rouge a little later, had a small argument with myself since I preferred how much more asymmetrical L'ange Noir was and the longer half-skirt, but Passion Rouge had the muffler scarf and pants. The deciding factor came to having those debuff skills, but I recolored it to use L'ange Noir's colors. From Day 4, I replaced them both with Black Mage, since it was very stylish and very effective at staggering, and came with a great boost to ATB. This was my primary garb for a long while until getting Splendid Admiral, which I used until the end of the game, since Final Fantasy V spoiler I've always seen Lightning/Serah like Faris/Lenna, so it was too perfect. Also Transform Bravery was an amazing perk, in addition to the stylishness. Intruder got some use too, sometimes where Transform Faith would be more useful, and that garb didn't look half bad either.
Cold Rebellion was also rather cool, and using it in combination with L'ange Noir in the early game was great for staggering. I also sometimes used Red Mage, though it took far too long to find a matching hat (and by the time I was doing the Dead Dunes, it was an obsolete garb), so it fell out of favor. Black Mage also went well here, after I started using Splendid Admiral on the top slot. I eventually finally replaced this one with L'automne and kept it equipped until the end of the game, since it was plenty stylish and Stagger Siphon was an amazing ability.
I was using Velvet Bouncer for a long time, it was my "finisher" garb after using my primary garb and second garb to wither them down. I just really liked Lightning in a suit. When I got Loyal Servant later on, thatone took me through to the end of the game for my physical striker, since it was just a bit more stylish and fancy. Plus Transform Shell to pair with Transform Bravery since magical attacks could be deadly in this game. Sometimes Quiet Guardian for when I needed a bit more defense could go nicely here also.
I agree there were a ton of silly ones, though, like the incredibly useful set of four elemental garbs with the unique ability to throw two level one spells and then a level two spell afterward were great stats-wise, but looked pretty bad. The only one I liked the looks of was Ignition, so I used that one while I was in the forest and things were weak to fire (those damn Dryads
I don't mind the stacking mostly, it's just M size things are a bit too bit to fit nicely on Jiant R/L. I've seen a few that look nice like the dragons that float in a cloud, but generally it just bugs me that they have things on their head that are way oversized because their heads are the same size in jiant form as they are in lili.
My stacks might work, but they are far from optimal i know. It's still more important they look nice to me. I use magitech armour with manticore (or sandi) for matching colours despite it not being the most useful combo. Black and gold all day everyday.
As for (FFXIII LR) It most mostly because i wanted each outfit to also have matching weapon/adornment and sadly, not all of them match lol. The outfits themselves were nice and i had no problems beating the game (minus day 13 boss, and the desert dragon that flew away with 1 tick of HP left - was so friggen mad)
