RAM the "new" bottleneck
lots of people are having fps issues,i was one of them even though i have a really high end system.
i7 7700k,1080ti,32gb ram at 3200mhz, 1440p ultra on a 165hz monitor.
and ssd of course.

for over a week i was getting 60-90 fps and cpu and gpu usage were both around the 50-60% usage so something was up.
in the past i have fixed this kind of issue by looking at dpc latency but that did not do anything.

i read somewhere how this game bottlenecks on ram speed/bandwidth so i checked my settings in my gigabyte motherboard bios.
changed some gigabyte setting for ram performance from "relaxed OC" to "enhanced performance" and finally my gpu usage is maxing out and i get 100-140 fps now constantly.

id go into more why this makes sense to me with WDDM 2.0 introduced in win 10 but this post is long enough already.

TL;DR
if you are having fps issues and cpu or gpu are not maxed out check ram settings.

Very interesting, Can these changes you made be reversed easily also?
metal spider 7 ABR 2018 a las 9:53 a. m.
yes,its just one setting in my mobo bios.

i finished most of the game before finding this and played over 40 hours with 60-90 fps.
now each time i play im getting 100-140 fps

Would you not recommend doing this on a gaming laptop?
I don't want to cause any excess heat build-up.
metal spider 7 ABR 2018 a las 10:07 a. m.
not sure how much your laptop bios would let you play around with these kind of settings anyway.
from my experience laptops have far fewer options in the bios then desktops.especially desktops from parts and not brand assembled..

if you can try different ram settings then by all means do,ram produces very little heat compared to cpu or gpu,
at most ram modules might have some small heat spreaders on them but never a fan as well. (DDR ram that is,GDDR ram on the graphics card is a little different and usually is also cooled by the HSF on the card.so would also have sufficient cooling anyway....)

Is there a way to change RAM settings/timings without changing BIOS? My motherboard doesn't have any options.
metal spider 7 ABR 2018 a las 10:13 a. m.
there are programs to try OCing RAM from within windows but i havent tried any of those in years.

for me it wasnt even ram mhz or timings, just weird GIGABYTE ram option.
guess you can also look for bios update for your motherboard that can also fix lots of different issues.

Thanks for this info i appreciate that.
Just one other question, is there a good info monitor program i can use to find out what my exact mobo is? I think i know the chipset but want to be sure.
Is it possible to mess up bios updates?
metal spider 7 ABR 2018 a las 10:47 a. m.
cpuz is good for finding motherboard model etc

it is possible to mess up bios updates,a lot less these days but still...
got a friend who can help you?

I also have 16 gb dd4 3200mhzcl4, 1440p 60 hz ips 24'' monitor but with more powerful cpu, ryzen 1700 and less powerful graphics card, gtx 970 g1 gaming 4gb. I am playing at max settings 1440p and in the benchmark it shows 39 fps average. I tested with lower ram clocks too(2133 and 3000 mhz) and didnt notice any difference in perfomace. I still got 39 fps average on max settings 1440p on all ram clocks speeds tests that i did. Probabbly due to gtx 970?

My motherboard is ASUS PRIME X370 PRO with latest bios installed. What ram settings should i check?

I'm using the gtx 970 6gb model and i find that it's using only 80-85% capacity and seems to be only utilizing about 3.8gb of vram out a possible almost 6gb.
I'm no computer whizz, but shouldn't our cards be doing a bit better?

Edit: GTX 970m, gaming laptop so my clock speeds are throttled back slightly compared to desktop version

What cpu and ram do you have? From bencrhmak i saw gtx 970 gets 37 fps http://www.guru3d.com/articles-pages/far-cry-5-pc-graphics-performance-benchmark-review,5.html but i got 39 fps so it must normal.

cpu is i7 4720hq and i've got 16gb of RAM savage something, can't remember what it's called exactly but i think it's clocking at 2333mhz.
I have frame locked at 40 from within game options running at 1080p on ultra settings.
Without frame locking it was jumping from a low of 39 to a high of 51.

edit; ok, i was way off with the RAM modules. 16gb of kingston ddr3 1600mhz

im not saying ram is always the bottleneck in this game.it depends on your setup....

you still need to look at cpu and gpu usage people.

and SHREDDER ryzen cpu has all kinds of latency issues in gaming so there's that too.you'll never get as many fps as an intel i7 because of delay between CCXs etc,ram speed helps you with that latency a lot too but still.

What about using your storage drive as additional ram as well, such as NVME M2 Sata or PCI-E drives basically.
