Far Cry 5 - Steam - "Performing First Time Setup" issue...
Steam is currently performing the "First Time setup".
It says Installing: (2 of 4) with a progress meter...and the little swirling wheel (still revolving clockwise)
I expect that we have all seen this.

BUT! Ive been staring at mine for something close to 17 hours!
Thats 17 HOURS get to Step 2 of 4 !
What gives?

Any ideas?

Happen to have a cracked windows by any chance?
Horseman™ Apr 2, 2018 @ 3:35pm
Nope..Win10 Pro

You can try this. Go to folder Far Cry 5\Support\Software and install Microsoft Net Framework and VCRedist.

The VCRedist may be the issue.
It starts, but sits at "Initialiazing..." does nothing and nothing is related in running processes.

updated:
I disabled UAC and now the VCRedist seems to be running normally, albeit slow

never had this issue with FarCry 4 or Far Cry Primal

Yeah sorry about that, I don't have the game installed in the Steam directory.

Try the Redist version found on microsoft website instead if you have further issues with the installation process.

Thats an update...but F*it!, worth a shot

Sometimes antivirus programs block certain files. Are you running anything like that in the background?
Prikkiki-Ti Apr 2, 2018 @ 4:10pm
Another thing to try is to go into steam settings > downloads and clear the download cache.
Horseman™ Apr 2, 2018 @ 4:19pm
did that (cleared cache) ...
I even updated Uplay to a more recent version that it (Far Cry 5) was trying to install.
it seems like maybe it was the VVRedist that was the issue

NOW! the game loads further - it opens uPlay, then the Far Cry 5 splashscreen...then it loads!
WooHoo! thanks for the assist...sometimes it takes two brains

Wonderful! I'm glad my brain could be of assistance.
Good job, I hope you enjoy the game :D

Make sure your Video card Drivers are current BEFORE you attempt to launch the game...
Several ppl have had issues launching if they arent up-todate.

Solved for me: Just had this problem. Stalled on step 1. Closed it out and restarted and then uPlay popped up and asked me to confirm linking Far Cry 5 on Steam to my Uplay Account. Then it installed fine. Maybe key for you is to try and trigger the uPlay message to link your steam version.
