ATTENTION! CANT START GAME? READ THIS!
When I first bought the game, I couldnt play. The game wouldnt open. The uplay window would open saying syncronizing saves, but then nothing would happen. The tast qould open for like a second max. After trying many things that people said, none worked. But I finally found a solution that worked for me. Everyone seems to have the same issue with a different cause. I reccomend checking out this video: https://youtu.be/ESDSyBQI2Us

These solutions seemed to work for some. But for me, it didnt. So if your uplay launcher logs say "Failed to initialize Steam API" like mine, then its your steam version. I had my steam updates disabled. To fix this, goto the steam folder and delete everything but the steamapps folder and Steam.exe. You may want to make a backups of your userdata folder as well, because some games store saves there, and you may have save synchronization off. Then run steam. Try to run the game, it should work. It may also be caused if your using the Steam Beta, which caused a similar issue for Far Cry 4 at launch.

If none of this worked, then try reinstalling uplay, after deleting it in its entirety including its cache folder. That seemed to work for some.

Hope this helped!

While it would be nice if people would post to fewer threads about the same thing, the contents of this one in particular hasn't resolved my issue.

Hm. I wonder if this little quirk in the log with the process ID changing has something to do with things.

Im not sure that details the problem, but just to be sure, run Uplay in offline mode. Also run Far Cry 5 with admin rights, and try disabling the firewall.
Kinote Apr 6, 2018 @ 8:55pm
It's a neat little quirk where the process is ending in such a way that it's logged, but not so cleanly that it doesn't leave a seperate entry lingering in task manager for each attempted start.

Offline mode might be worth a shot.

Edit: Nope.

You telling people to delete everything in the steam folder except steam.exe and the steamapps folder will also cause them to lose saves that are stored in the userdata folder that some games store their save games and config files at. Before telling people all willy nilly to delete stuff make sure it's not important first. I'm sure people don't want to lose their save game files cause you told them to delete the folder that has game saves in.

Dr. Sam Beckett, thank you for the post, I forgot about that, I fixes the post.

Also Kinote, alot of people running Windows 7 are having this issue. I believe I was reading something that fixed this for many people. In the Far Cry 5 folder, goto the Software folder under Support, and open the folder that is titled D3d_win7. Then run the Windows 6.1 msu file. Im not sure which one it is, but I believe its the second one (KB401).

It seems common enough that QA should have caught it, at least.

Both helpfully notified me that they're already installed. As one would expect with all the other games on here. =P

I've been having this issue for a while and tried everything I've found on the net to no avail. So I tried something and got it to work! Completely exit Steam. Open Ubisoft Connect and run the game from there. It will open Steam itself and the game will run. FINALLY figured it out!

Thank you for sharing this solution GgNeXt.
These are issues reported in 2018. There is no need bring these threads up.
I'm locking the thread.
