Why are they forcing us.
I'm just trying to explore the map and do hunting, challenges, etc.

It's been 3-4 times story missions happen out of no where and we end up in jail.

There are also aircraft flying over hunting us while doing other challenges, no reason really.

The weird poisonning fumes and mind alterating stuff is like deja-vu from far cry 3. It's just annoying

Just wanted to share my opinion as new player...

every area has 3 encounters with "boss" before last fight. if u want to free roam the best way is to kill boss in that area.

It's bad game design and you are not the first person saying this. When you do things in a region you get resistance points and more points will get you in a boss fight (3 in each region).

It's a mod that can adjust this (resistance mod)

Its a story game. According to the plot, you are limited in time, so story inserts happen. But at the same time, you are given sufficient freedom to explore and upgrade.
Its a game world, not a simulation. There are Hunting specific games that allow you to roam the wilderness looking for adventure. This is different.

This is a game world with a faction of cultists intent of killing and controlling local citizens. If you get rid of that threat, then you can roam free.
Look at it like this...

FC5 is the only open world game that literally lets you go anywhere and do anything right from the beginning and for the whole game.

The captures are a small payoff so that you don't have to chase the story - the story will find you.

Besides, each capture mission only takes a few minutes and you are free to go back to whatever you were doing.

Overall it's worth putting up with the captures so that you can have such freedom imo.

There's a cheese I discovered years ago to skip it. Max it out and fast travel to another region. Do a mission there and go back to the region you're hunted in. So long as you don't progress any more of the bar you can roam freely. If you do make the bar bigger - fast travel away again. Requires you unlock an area in each region before you hit the point though.
There is a mod that slows down story progression, not sure if it still works now though.

i think aircraft only start appearing after 33% completion of a region, so you have the first third to explore at leisure and get used to the new environment. there is one squadmate who can help you out if you find enemy aircraft annoying but you have to find them first. and final third is when all hell breaks loose and you frequently see resistance members engaging peggies all over the region haha.

NGL I really don't like it how the game forces the cutscenes into you. I think every region has an "welcoming cutscene" where the cutscene just starts while you are doing whatever without you even reaching the first circle on the regional meter. I was running in the woods when my screen went black and I woke up getting drowned in the river. No explanation whatsoever, I guess I just reached an hourly milestone or something as I was nowhere near for one on the visible meter. Same happened in Jacob's and Faith's regions; Cutscenes before reaching the milestones.

Also when you reach the circle on the regional meter eventually there will be some invisible sniper who manages to shoot you with an dart or something and the game forces an story mission to begin. You can't avoid it forever. I've been thrown into the cutscene while flying a plane, no idea how they managed to drug me there, but it makes as much sense as the npc's saying stuff like "You need to prove to me you can trusted", after I've killed hundreds of cultists already lol
