Planes are cancerous
Any early game advise on weapons effective against planes? (I'm like 3 exp points on faith) Explosive bow bolts are they perks to craft?

I like sniping Normally I run a Bow, S-16 and 1911\.44. So planes seem to shrug off everything. Short of mounted guns. Helicopters go down how they should.

Seriously I thought Wildlands ai was dumb. But it actually does shoot at airborne enemies.
.....and listens sometimes.

For planes you have the following options:

- Use GFH to target them. Nick or Hurk are good options.
- RAT4+scope, if it's available.
- LMG's/RPG if you're a good aim.
- Tazer Spazer Annihilazer (if you have the Mars weapons).
- Hide.

Armour piercing rounds make short work of em when I deal with em.

Also if you use a sniper when they're dive bombing, you can put a 50/308 right through the pilots skull. Not too hard to line up the shot and it's extremely satisfying heheh.

Oh yeah forgot to mention, it can be tricky but if they're close enough you can just throw a C4 charge at em and boom problems gone

Seriously man, the most annoying thing in the game...or any game for that matter.

I just try my best to ignore them as long as possible ~ they're so not even worth the effort to bring them down.

If you're on the ground a 50 cal sniper, such as the 50 Free State will bring any plane down with about 2/3 shots. Aim directly for the pilot as the plane straightens up to strafe you. If you want to be doubly sure, switch to armour piercing rounds. Works same for hostile helicopters.

The best I've found so far in the air is if you happen to be flying around in an armed helicopter, just minding your own business enjoying the countryside and get bounced suddenly. Just spin round on the helicopters central axis and follow the plane as it passes, firing all the time. Never fails.

Also, if you haven't already, when you're flying actual fixed wing planes make sure you've selected the dual keyboard/mouse control option when setting up. That'll give you full similar control on the mouse as for a helicopter, which makes them so much easier to fly.

Awesome thanks for the replies and strategies. I generally like to sneak around all silenced weapons. Usually it's my ai partner that gives me away. Cluelessly standing next to the bush I'm hiding in. Otherwise i don't pick fights with planes. But the reinforcements keep coming and jumping into a vehicle is useless. Since the ai doesn't even shoot at airborne targets it seems.
Then you get strafed or bombed. Also I find the hit detection on people and animals with auto weapons seems off.

Like if you shoot someone during their hit reaction they soak up those bullets.
But same weapon if you single shot them waiting for them to reset. They die in 3 bullets as opposed to 10 from a spray. Even from point blank where there's no possible way you could miss.

So I obviously need to change my playstyle. Looks like I'm gonna have to unlock some more heavier rifles. I suck with the rpg. I hip fire since it doesn't take up 75% of the screen haha. The C4 idea is pretty dope I'll give that a try.

I don't have any aircraft unlocked yet. Also gotta go find Hurk or Nick.
Or wait for the stars to align for my buddy to get on at the same time.

Don't know what weapons you're using or what level you're playing, but I use all silenced weapons and only go for head shots. You seem to be using a similar strategy to me. At short to medium range the AR-CL with long distance scope is very good for that, but keep it on single shot option to reduce muzzle flip. One shot kill for most, except the VIP's , angels and LMG gunners.
For longer distance shots, or guaranteed kills, I use the 50 Free State. Again it's a one shot kill for most, except the LMG gunners, they normally need 2 shots, unless at very close range. If you can get 2 cultists in line, the 50 Free State will take out both with 1 shot.
The advantage of carrying both rifles is that the AR-CL carries up to 280 shots of normal ammo but the 50 cal maxes out at 35 shots, so use wisely.
For close quarter fighting I use a silenced LMG which carries up to 500 rounds of standard ammo.
All can be equipped with armour piercing ammo also once you have the "Black market" perk.
I've just completed the game for the second time using different strategies, but the same weapons. Worked very well both times.
You should be able to get your first helicopter when you have enough to buy one, about $7200 or thereabouts. Once you've recovered Nicks plane for him, the planes are then free to use from the airfield not far from Falls End. I personally prefer helicopters, they're just so much more manoeuvrable.

And don't forget to dodge the dead plane crashing towards you after... :47_thumb_up:
