I enjoyed the gameplay as I do with all Far Cry games, but the stories are all feel bad stories. I finished 3 and 4 as well and was left annoyed and frustrated with all of them.
In summary, Everything about Far Cry is awesome except the main storylines.
Also worth mentioning that I HATED the inescapable capture scenes that take away your control. Really the worst thing I've experienced in the series.
While FC6 has a somewhat surprise ending, it leaves us with an anything can happen ending.
FC5 just leaves with and end of the world no matter what you do.
In Cyberpunk, the ending is even dumber.
"Far Cry: New dawn" contains the real ending for FC5 and answers a lot of questions. ;-)
Those two games belong together.
Other then Skyrim, Fallout 4, Witcher 3, X Series, and GTA games I have rarely found myself replaying a game, especially an UBISoft game. Farcry 5 and new dawn are fun, Farcry 5 more so.
With that said Faith is flying around and mind thumping people if you hadn't noticed lol, Lucifer is yanking people out of choppers by playing the platters

It's not meant to be realistic it's meant to be fun and crazy.
So , my opinion is this. Far Cry 5's ending was disappointing to me as well -- not just because of the nukes but
***SPOILER**
After single-handedly taking down the cult, you end the game with Dutch dead, and handcuffed in a bunker with Joseph-- this is considered the "good ending"
.. The good ending. You know, the one where the Sheriff and all of your allies from the intro to the game, all dead. And you're in the clutches of the main villain, and the world ends. -- Sorry what?
**SPOILER TWO**
THEN.. In Far Cry: New Dawn you found out the Deputy survived with Joseph Seed, but Joseph managed to convert the Deputy into a Peggy (Now, the New Edeners)
As you might already know, The Judge is the protagonist from Far Cry 5 -- wearing a mask and having no distinctive voice.
And there is no follow up to this -- Joseph is literally like "Here, take the Judge. Their only language is violence"
Played all the far crys in order of release - up to 5. The ending of FC5 was always going to be grim, just based one the whole premise. DD Prepper cults. Not much of a dental plan.
There is nothing to say a story has to have a happy ending. :p
Though I know what you are saying, given what we find out in New Dawn, we never actually win the first game so to speak. (it is also how I felt about mass effect 3's endings)
Far Cry 5 has a dark foreboding ending (somewhat open to personal interpretation), but that's cool.
Some people can't handle it, but that's their problem. The rest of us can enjoy it.
Far Cry 6 DLC does pretty well explain a lot of missed background and motivations of Joseph Seed.
"Spoilers"
-Joseph Seed did try to warn people, he did not have the intention to harm people.
-In fact, the only reason why people did survive is deputy, without him those 3 crazy family members would have had killed all the other survivors in their bunkers.
Far Cry New Dawn does pretty well show, that despite all the sacrifices, he is not happy what he had to do and about the outcome.
I would say it's a very good tragic hero arc.
Except Joseph knew who his family was and what they were capable of and did nothing to stop it, he clearly had the intention of harming anyone who was not a follower.
He was not a peaceful man at all. Now maybe overall he was trying to save some people, but he went about it completely wrong.
