Silver bars that are not in outposts?

At some point I picked up some silver bars from a safe that was not in an outpost, and I'm just trying to work out where it was from. All the guides I've checked only seem to list outposts and towns.

Summary:
I've almost exclusively played within John's region. I recall picking them up from a safe somewhere, which was when I realised you could find them in-game rather than purchasing them. I want to say this happened near the Lamb of God church, but I really don't recall.

Later, I found 40 in Fall's End, and it was only then (not when I picked up the earlier set) I got a popup telling me that they could be found in outposts, etc.

I went back to the only two outposts I've liberated - US Auto and Gardenview - and found the bars there.

I've never even BEEN to the remaining locations the guides list in John's region - they're all still greyed out on the map - but now I have 160.

Are they found randomly in other safes or something? Prepper stashes?

this isn't quite true - I've driven past the Green-Busch Fertilizer Co. but never inside, and Sunrise Farm is right on the edge of the greyed-out area so I've been close to that as well. Those bars are in quite distinctive locations though, they definitely aren't the ones I found.

I can post the map as of the time I posted if that helps.

Money and 40 Silver Bars in a safe in small shed that can be accessed by smashing the boards covering the window.

I don't believe that it's literally random, but they are in safes in certain fixed locations outside of outposts, in addition to those you can earn via playing Arcade and doing the related weekly challenges.

update: this is exactly where they came from, I went back and found that building & I'd already opened the safe.

In John's region all the Silver Bars (10) are in Safes. In the other regions you wil find Silver Bars without any Safe nearby, like Nolan's Fly Shop, Drubman Marina, JESSOP CONSERVATORY...

I'm not really one for video guides - I've not got the patience - but good work! All the written guides I've looked at so far list only 9 in John's region.
