bliss, why?
Anyone else find the whole bliss thing in FC5 dull and annoying ? I also don't like that I was dragged away from a interesting side mission and forced to engage in a tedious boss fight with Sarah or whatever her name was. It's time Far Cry dropped these drug/hallucination type missions.

"executed poorly".
What does that exactly mean?

The framework of how it was written wasn't the greatest. I will say that a visually the game is amazing but the writing is a bit crap and this was an example of it.

Explain

It is annoying, but theres not really any other way to move that story along. Unless they just said "hey, so this boss is ready to meet you, go see them when you have a chance" kinda thing.

that would of been better than "forcing" players to fight the boss BEFORE wanting too.Being forced to fight the boss too early gave me the feeling that i was being rushed out of a region before being able to complete all the quest.

this is my humble opinion.
I agree

Yeah they've always been my least favorite part of the Far Cry games, and in this one bliss is pretty much just a magic substance that fills out holes in the writing like:
"how can we make all the player's allies turn against them in an instant?"

The gameplay and story's tone don't compliment each other well at all. The story is dark while the rest of the game is a fairly lighthearted, fun action romp. What this does well is highlight the difference between what Hope County was and what the cult is turning it into. But that's undermined by the ending's message: You were wrong to fight the bad guy.

Dark Souls is a good example of gameplay reinforcing the story. The story there is sparse as hell, but it's bleak and that bleakness is sold through gameplay by it being tough and unforgiving. The setting sells it by the areas being dilapidated and friendly NPCs being few and far between.

The open world structure hurts narrative flow as you can do almost anything in any order or not do them at all in most cases. The only events for the ending to happen as it does is that Joe's siblings need to be dead. How or why that happens almost doesn't matter. They could have all died in separate hilariously tragic accidents. (Turns out that Bliss exposure causes fatal incontinence.)

A good story will have events build on each other and characters that develop in some way. It's kind of like horror movies. Jump scares require no set up, but they do get the job done, but great horror sets up tension and atmosphere in a way that can be much more effective. Far Cry 5's story beats, like jump scares, just kind of happen in a way that's divorced from the rest of the game and don't really hinge on any event happening or not happening.

You're not wrong for liking Far Cry 5. I like the gameplay and I've been playing it through a second time. The world is fun to play in. And I don't think you're wrong for liking its story either because I also like things that are pretty bad like Hellgate: London. That game was a broken pile of crap and I loved it.

I think he was just talking about how bliss was not used right, not the whole game.

Yeah, I've already heard all the moaning and whining about the story not being written by Shakespeare. Tell me about the Bliss.
Dirty Hippy Apr 21, 2018 @ 3:55am
That makes sense! I regret nothing!

Though, the jump scares part kind of applies to the Bliss as well. It works how they want to when they want it to with no regards to nothing. Does it make you go sleepytimes, turn you into a mind controlled murderbot, a plot device because one of the bosses uses drugs in place of a radio? Yes. Why not?
Dirty Hippy Apr 21, 2018 @ 3:58am
And wanting basic writing competance in a story isn't the same as asking for it to be a masterpiece. Is it to much to ask for every part of a game to at least be at least mediocre?

I think bliss is unessary, and they could have went darker with a mixture of drugs.

I feel the over all plan of the villains make sense, but my only problem is it goes on too long. Why not steal suppliesthen simply go underground?, why wait. Why even steal, why not buy? why make drugs when you could make food to last a few years in there bunkers.

Were they planning on using bliss as a another means of indoctranating people, as opposed to johns plan? was there discussion, tough to say.

In anycase faith seed was interesting, next to joseph himself, so i think it excuses bliss a bit.

Each Herald has thier own way of brainwashing people into the Cult.
Faith uses drugs. Pretty much the standard method for most cults, and some religions.
At least in the early days of our history.

In fact, one of the reasons burning candles is so popular among religions is because those candles used to be filled with some form of narcotic that would make people feel blissful when they entered a temple.

Yeah, they could have just used crack cocaine to brainwash people, I guess.

But the creation of this drug called "BLISS" which makes people easier to manipulate and control and also makes them feel good, fits perfectly into the world that was created by the writers. It makes PERFECT sense.

Each Herald pretty much shows you the multiple ways that people are tricked by Cults.
