Wooden crosses around rivers?

Noticed this one when was fishing for state records. There are sometimes wooden crosses on rivers. possibly indicating graves. I haven't paid much attention, but beneath one of them, there was "S" pained in red.

Is there any meaning behind this? Like, some sort of secret?

Well, you know, I've finished game, and there is nothing really to do in game. I would not really like to go and search crosses for unknown reason. Probably will just google it up (I've uninstalled game already)

Yes, using map. Was that related?

There is a quest to collect barrels of whiskey that was hidden by another npc's grandfather (I think it was). The crosses were markers to show that the barrels were hidden nearby.

The barrels are not shown on the map unless you buy a map from a shop after acquiring the quest.

Ok, thanks, that solves it. I've just got map of barrels from trader.
