Silent protagonist is lazy and completely breaks immersion.
I know no one at Ubi gives a crap what's posted here but I still just want to voice my disappointment.

How can you be this lazy? All the cutscenes and interactions feel completely unnatural and dumb, taking you out of the experience COMPLETELY.

Yes, you would need to have atleast 3 unique voices for each gender, because having a black character that sounds like a white dude would be dumb, but if Saints Row 2 managed just fine TEN YEARS AGO, there is just no excuse for this.

This could have been a great game, but playing a mute just completely breaks and invalidates the entire world.

I don't think it's necessarily a horrible decision in every game. It might be a good fit in an RPG where players are completely free to design their own character. Sometimes people actually prefer it if the protagonist is not voices -- for example, people complained about it in Fallout 4 (but I think it was fine personally).

However, in Far Cry 5 it just means the characters are talking at you the whole time. Couple this with the fact that that there's no player agency, and you feel like more of a camera man than a participant.

I prefer it myself, having someone else speak for me in a game breaks immersion. I'd prefer no pain/sprinting sounds also.

as for fallout 4, it wasn't so much about the voiced player, but the limitations they imposed on the game's dialog and story to support that design choice. I generally try to mute player voice lines whenever possible and turn subs on.

Yet there's people complaining about the fact that Fallout 4 features a fully voiced playable character.

People are NEVER happy with what they get, after all.

Silent protagonist would've suited better if it was an RPG game.

Probably because the dialogue system likely mandated by the voice acting removed any meaningful nunance in dialogue choices. You get 4 choices and two of those were always "Yes" and "Yes, but sarcastically".

Had there been a couple thousand more lines of dialogue to allow for actual roleplaying, it would probably have been better received. Or they could just have saved the expense and just gone with text. Worked just fine in the past.

No, they don't. If you need to lie to make a point, your point is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ one.

What people are *actually* complaining about, is the fact that it's a roleplaying game that doesn't allow any actual roleplaying because of the inherent limitations of a voiced protagonist. FarCry is NOT a roleplaying game, however.

any first person view game for me with a voiced protagonist is less immersive. the viewpoint implies I am the player character, not that I am along with him for the ride. the best usages of this is where the camera switches to third person for dialog/uses text systems, and the worst is during gameplay the player provides his own lines unprompted entirely (without any key press or interaction with world.) like reminding what the objective is by talking outloud to self.

agreed, but its not as bad as the lazy story writing. so dang repetitive, and the ending? not good! and lets not forget the forced misions after resistance point metre that prevent you from completing all missions, that too breaks the imersion.

Far cry 3's protagonist is the best

I actually think having a speaking character breaks the immersion more than a mute one. Since I'd rather play 'me' than a made-up pre-defined character.

It's really kinda odd considering they got Adam Jensen's voice actor to speak made up cave man for the MC in Primal.

Far cry2 silent protagonist, far cry 3 boring protagonist(don’t talked very much either)far cry 4 also more silent protagonist. You are the protagonist in the fc games and it breaks immersion if your character says something you would disagree with

Dammed if you do, Dammed if you do not. Personally I prefer a silent protagonist as I can immerse myself into the game and character more.

I prefer it.
I rather enjoy creating my own dialog.

Are you actually trying to tell me that you talk to yourself while playing? You seriously need to get with your dissociative disorder.
You should work on your reading comprehension skills since that was a huge stretch in trying to insult someone who offer an opinion to counter yours.

Why continue to follow a thread you created in April 2018? Need attention much?
