Joseph's goal and trying to "save" people? (spoilers)
So I get that he believes the apocalypse is upon is and took it upon himself to try to save as many people as possible. The Resist Ending of the game shows us that in hindsight, he was right. Except for the part where all his attempts at "saving" people instead involve killing a lot of them, especially because they "resist" his salvation.

I don't know if it's because he's so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ naive that he didn't see what his heralds were actually doing, or that it was simply his method of "culling the herd" as Jacob did because he knew he didn't have enough space in the bunkers for everyone. I still don't see where the "kill, maim, torture, flail, and hang them from their entrails" attitude towards those who resist comes from. If they refuse his salvation, then let them die. Why persist and kill them anyway, if your goal was to try to "save" them? Seems to me that John's and Joseph's criticism of the Deputy having "Pride" and "Wrath" is more applicable to THEM.

Joseph PRIDED himself on being the Messiah and believing HE had to save people and it was solely HIS duty to do it. And John exhibited WRATH against those who refused him and didn't want to say "Yes" just because he demanded it. I know it's silly to question why an insane homicidal cult would do the things it does, but it just seems ridiculous to think Joseph was either that naive and ignorant, or proudly arrogant and stubborn that he couldn't see how his actions made things worse, and how his Heralds did NOT help in saving people.

And we can't say he didn't try to do things the legal way. Him having John as a lawyer buy up all the property in Hope County means that he understood that doing things the legal and moral way is the better approach. Gotta wonder then when he decided that the "brute force" approach was better and had his cult straight up kidnap people and burn their homes down.

he did it cuz he is insane .. remember he admits to you he killed his only real infant daughter during the game ..with his bare hands after his wife died

that's insanity if you kill a baby like that . sorry but yes you are insane if you do that to your own kid

Oh, I remember that. I always felt like that was a cop-out and excuse for him doing everything he did afterwards then, just because he couldn't muster up the courage to be a father to his daughter. So he had to be a "Father" to unknown strangers in his twisted attempt to "save" them.

Funny how he couldn't extend the same courtesy to his newborn infant. Makes you wonder if him believing half his own ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ is simply a "coping mechanism" for the PTSD he suffered from his wife's death, and killing his daughter afterwards.

This has to do with the ending of Far Cry New Dawn so dont read this unless you have beaten it, or just don't care.

In the end of New Dawn, Joseph said he was a “monster” who “has only spread suffering and death in the name of God” My best guess is that he was in fact insane, and thought he was listening to god in what he was doing but he turned out he was wrong completely and he was actually just very very crazy.

Oh, no. I already knew how that game ended for Joseph. I just think that him coming to that conclusion in that game was "too little, too late". Coming to terms with your own sins and monstrous behavior AFTER the fact doesn't absolve you or change anything.

Funny how he only finally came to that realization after his son died. Yet he had no problem choking his own daughter. That we spare him as punishment and to force him to live with that regret and pain is only a slight compensation for all the pain and suffering he inflicted on everyone else before New Dawn.
