How do I know when I've reached a save point?
Got to say I'm absolutely loving this game!

But I'm getting a bit fed up with getting sent way back in the game if I get killed.

I just took out some hillbillies at some location and was working my way through another ranch, then I got mauled to death by a bison and now I'm back to the previous ranch and I've got to kill them all again, and go round and pick up all the loot etc..

Kind of takes the fun right out of the game that does.

Anyone got any tips?

There is a save option but it doesn't seem to be actually saving my progress..

This is getting a bit tedious now. Am I misunderstanding things though and it is actually saving my progress - it's just the places I've just killed a bunch of red necks when I go back to the check point there are just more people there, and all the stuff I've collected is still there?

you press escape / go to the main menu and select SAVE

you will see the blinking dots as your game is saved .. in the upper right

you can not make a manual save DURING A MISSION
the game will only make check point saves until you complete that mission in case you die

always fast travel back to a safe house before you quit the game

and save your game

if the game will not save your possibly in the middle of a mission .. you can not make a manual save

press tab open your journal and select UNTRACK the mission your on if you can not complete it

note the game will not save your mission progress if you have not completed that activity
far cry 3 4 and primal all work pretty much the same way .. you also can not make a manual save until you have completed the games PROLOGUE

also always make sure you run the game with administrator rights enabled , that step will be needed as the game yes saves to a program files location

also personally i shut off the cloud save option in my ubi connect program and prefer to make my OWN back ups of my save files , as yes if you lose connection to the ubi servers or your internet goes out .. you can get a corrupted save file

details on how to do that can be found here

or you can use a save game file manager program like this one

good luck !

some of the missions are tedious after a handful of attempts, I think you can change the difficulty mid game for that reason, in case you are like me and prefer to continue the story rather than bang my head into a wall for hours haha at least the first time around. My second play through I cranked up the difficulty for me and my friend to be tactical but also to laugh at each other for the weird ways you can die in this game

I know what you mean. I just did the Hope County Jail mission and I thought those Peggies were never going to stop coming! When I eventually picked up the rocket launcher and blew up the music vans though, that seemed to end things..

There aren't save points. It will load you into the nearest friendly base. Your progress is saved but precise map location is not. So you can't save scum a mission b/c if you load back in, you will be just before you accepted it or at a base closes to the mission start.
