That said, the damn planes are part of the game.
- Get Nick Rye on your side, he can shoot them down for you
- Use the sniper rifle, buy some armor piercing rounds if you have to
- Find the rocket launcher
- Hide in the woods if you have to, they'll go away after two passes or so after they lose you
- Finish off the final story mission in the area and they'll go away for good
Yep, the only reason I come back to replay this game time to time is because of that mod.
I keep the planes, but other tweaks that mod does are major of life quality of life enchantments.
Companions on the ground will shoot at it too, and draw attention away from you.
