Cause it don't support sse 4.1 only sse 4a. That is why your game won't run.

Excuse me??? I've been running FC 5 on this machine since April. It recently quit working after I installed updates from steam
No your cpu does not exceed the minimum system requirements.
Your phenom II x6 does not meet the minimum requirements as i underlined. You need to upgrade your pc to play this game as i highly doubt you was playing this game since april. At least not with that phenom II x6.

Don't believe me or think i'm lying here is the store page link alkl you have to do is scroll down till above the reviews and you will see the system requirements.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/552520/Far_Cry_5/

Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8.1, Windows 10 (64-bit versions only)
Processor: Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.1 GHz or AMD FX-6300 @ 3.5 GHz or equivalent
Memory: 8 GB RAM
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 670 or AMD R9 270 (2GB VRAM with Shader Model 5.0 or better)
DirectX: Version 9.0c
Network: Broadband Internet connection
Storage: 40 GB available space
Additional Notes: Game contains EasyAntiCheat (https://www.easyanticheat.net/) anti-cheat technology, and Denuvo (https://www.denuvo.com/) and VMProtect (http://vmpsoft.com/support/user-manual/introduction/what-is-vmprotect/) anti-tamper technology.

What we have here is a failure to understand what I am saying, Once again, I've been playing this game on this machine since April. It's the only machine I use for gaming. When I was forced to install the latest patches the game, when I went to play the game after the patches is when the error dialog began.
if you managed to get the game running on a phenom || then you were extremely lucky i think as it should not run on a phenom due to lack of sse 4.1 suppport , i had a phenom and got that exact same message , game wouldnt run , bought a cheap fx8350 off ebay stuck that in and its always worked since ,

i saw a lot of posts when i couldnt get it running , there are so many fixes offered by the time you try them all , it still doesnt work , only thing i can think of is that you must have had something like Intel® Software Development Emulator installed , that basically emulates the sse 4.1 but i could never get it to work

i think you will find you need to replace your cpu , i sold my old phenom on ebay and got almost what i paid for the fx8350 back off it too so not a big deal

I think you are not understanding that your weak 12 year old cpu can't play this game. I highly doubt that you have been playing since april in fact i think you are lying. You hide your game hours so no one can see them so you are a liar untill you prove your self right.

I think the issue is that somewhere along the patches, the underlying DRM has been upgraded and now requries SSE 4.1. Yes, the arguments about the Phenom II being plenty powerful to handle this game will commence, but compute power is not the only factor. The Phenom II cpu decided not to support SSE 4.1 instruction set. Phenom II users that are feeling ripped off should point that frustration at AMD. AMD did not start supporting SSE 41. until its FX series processors.

There is supposedly a way of emulating SSE 4.1, but I haven't even thought about it so can't vouch for how well it works -- if at all. I am usually one to squeeze out more useable life from technology components than the masses, but gaming with modern titles on a CPU older than 6 years should be approached with a "if it works, that's great" mindset.

It isn't just about how fast it executes instructions. If it is missing instruction sets then it is game over.
its nothing to do with patches , the game has needed sse 4.1 from day 1 , and still does today

It always need SSE 4.1 since day one. Nothing has changed in that regard.

Instead of debating on what is required to run fc5 with the latest updates, Is it possible to roll back the patches that broke my installation? And if so How ? I really don't cherish the idea of spending $200 to upgrade a perfectly working system just to run fc 5.

Maybe I could setup a VM on my linux box. ideas?

i guess your just glancing over replys , and not really reading them , to play this game with a phenom || is not going to work , its never worked and never will , if your game worked on a phenom then your the only one who has got it to work , google it

I believe they changed the code in new dawn. FC5 still hate phenoms.
