Pricing: Steam vs Ubisoft Store
This title, just like Assassin's Creed Origins, is priced too high here relative to the official Ubisoft Store imo.

In my country, Australia, the translated price for the basic version is about $85.00 AUD. So that isn't actually too bad. But the Deluxe Edition is where it goes sideways.

On Steam, the translated price for that edition is $105.00 AUD. Whereas on Ubisoft's store it is the same price as the regular version, which is $90.00 AUD.

However, if you use 100 Uplay credits (most folks will have this naturally, I have about 500 currently from just playing Ubisoft titles) you get a further 20% off. This makes the title $72.00 AUD.

$105 (Steam) vs $72(Uplay)

That's a huge $33.00 markup from the official publisher storefront.

As Uplay is mandatory for any of the Ubisoft titles as well it's kind of the superior version as it has one less client running.

Well of course they want you to buy from their own store, they don't have to pay steam overhead (which is said to be upwards of 30% in cases).

I prefer my games on steam though so paid the 90$ for gold edition.

I prefer my games on Steam too and with the recent change to local currency for many Steam accounts I was amazed to see an FC5 pre-purchase price of AR$659 (Argentina peso), which at the current exchange rate is around USD34. Nice to see regional pricing working in our favour for a change :)

Anyone buying Ubisoft games from Uplay or Steam should get their heads examined. Even when they have a sale, you will still find them cheaper on sale elsewhere.

This assumes that "cheapest price" is the consumers top priority. For many, it isn't.

Fair enough, there's the refunds thing I guess. The "I want it in my steam library" thing is stupid as hell.

Well, as I stated, with the 20% off the title is actually quite cheap. I actually can't find the Deluxe Edition for cheaper on any grey site, and the ones I find a couple of bucks cheaper are for the standard version, not the Deluxe.

So I see no reason not to give the official developer of the title the sale for their game when they are giving it to me for the cheapest price. It's also a little more assuring seeing it pop up into my library weeks before release, and of course the benefit of a preload. I've never had a bad key from a site like cdkeys but it is obviously even less of a concern from Ubisoft themself.

Ubisoft offered a discount on the game? That's highly unusual. In fact, I can't think of any Ubi game where that's happened before (in the US).

The point that Refractive is making is that it's cheaper elsewhere. So why pay more if you don't have to?

GMG had it for 23% off a few days ago.

---

Uplay offers a 20% discount if you use 100 Uplay coins...but that excludes pre-purchases and new games. So there's no 20% discount on this game through the Uplay Club.

You are incorrect friend. It most definitely does include pre-purchases and new titles. I have already purchased it at Ubisoft for $72.00 AUD, just like I previously did weeks before the release of Assassin's Creed Origins.

It is the Deluxe Edition as well.

The Deluxe Edition is $70 USD at GMG. If I apply the the 20% discount it makes it $56, which is $71.50-$72.00 AUD. So basically the exact same price. If it is 23% it is a couple of dollars cheaper, but does not assure me a preload period, which is nice. And as stated, paying the developer directly feels better if there is no financial penalty for doing so.

So Ubi is wrong?

I makes sense to buy it directly from Ubi if the discount exists for the use of Uplay points. But according to Ubisoft's page there, it doesn't. If Ubi is mistaken about that policy, then Ubi would be a good place to get the game if you can get the discount.

It appears you don't get the discount in the US, but I definitely do in Australia.

By changing the ANZ in the web address to US the discount disappears.

Here's what I see:

So from your perspective yes it's not a great place to buy, from mine it's the most logical.

Ahh cool cool, well at least you know now for your next purchase ;-)

I agree BUT, steam can give a refund tho, if the price are the same on steam as uplay, ill go for the steam version for that reason. (and i like to have my games in one launcher if possible)
