Co-op progression system is bad...
A friend and I were looking forward to finally being able to play the story of a Far Cry game in co-op but the way the progression is handled in Far Cry 5 is just horrible. Who thought it was a good idea to separate the progressions so that you lose all the progress if you're the one joining the game and not the one hosting it?

Personally, I think that the system that's used makes playing the story in co-op pretty unappealing because in order to unlock everything for yourself, you either have to be the one hosting the game and screw your friends over because they'll have to play through everything again on their own or have them host the game but that would screw you over because you'd have to play through everything again on your own.

It's also absolutely ridiculous that you can't even talk to NPCs or click on certain objects if you're not the one hosting the game. What even is the point of playing a game co-op if one person is made to feel like they've just taken control of a random NPC but have no control over anything whatsoever?

I really would've preferred if a system like in Ghost Recon: Wildlands would've been applied because that way, the progression in the hosts game will still be the main progression point but everything you do together in co-op will unlock for all players equally and stay that way even if they then decide to play some parts by themselves or with other people.

I don't know if there's a way to fix or change the co-op progression but it would be really appreciated because the way it is right now, in my opinion, is just frustrating.

Well, they say, only story progression is lost. Money, weapons, materials, even skill points will be saved. So, the guest then start their own game and have plenty of things from the beggining.

@KRON
Why would I want to play through the entire game multiple times though, just to unlock the story elements and story related things? That's just bs if you ask me. The way it is right now, they're basically telling people that if they want to unlock the story related stuff, they either have to host the game and screw over their friends or play the game alone. Personally, I don't see why they even bothered to implement a co-op mode in this case. I have never played a game in co-op where I was forced to play the story twice just to be able to unlock its elements. The co-op mode in Far Cry 5 in regards to playing the story together shouldn't even be called co-op because that's just not how co-op works. Sure, maybe it does for free runs and random side objectives and specific co-op objectives but not in terms of co-op story gameplay.

Also, if I keep my personal character progression, money, gear, materials, and skill points it makes playing through the story of the game again even more pointless. I'm not sure if the enemies adapt to the player's skill level (considering that the AI isn't exactly the brightest in general) but if they don't, then wouldn't that make the player pretty much overpowered?

I don't know, I just don't think that the system they've implemented is well thought through and should be worked on and adjusted to something similar like they used in Ghost Recon: Wildlands.

I go help my brother on his occasional. I don't want that to effect my progress.
