WHY we no longer see MSAA in games?
In most of recent games I only see TAA or SMAA, yeah MSAA was demanding but it was wonderful.

As a result you have a choice between jaggie fest, vaseline blur, or tanking your framerate with supersampling.
It's BS for sure. Games from 5 years ago are looking better than the newest triple A games because of this.

My favourite type of AA is MSAA and SSAA but sadly no games are using them. It is all about the res scale nowadays sadly. So your best bet is to just get a 4k monitor or if you can afford it I got a 5k res by Dell and it is just beautiful as I don't need any AA. I think 5k is the sweet spot for me cause even at 4k I needed AA and if the game didn't support MSAA than I would just not play it as TAA can have some trouble with SLI systems.

Very ture - but i think its just too demanding overall these days... 10 years ago the actual geometry/polygon count of a scene was alot less than it is today, so there were less 'points' to cover and smooth out...Today most scenes are super complex and 8xMSAA or above would bring most PCs to thier knees...

Thing is if you really want it you can just use Nvidia control panel to force it in games (works most of the time)...

Dont let me start with that TAA, that one is horrible in all games, its just blur the ♥♥♥♥ out of the games...

Agree, I mean Crysis 3 is now old af but still very demanding with 8xMSAA.

Yes and TAA looks like crap and is a blur fest. I will take resolution over refresh rate ANYDAY. Nothing beats a nice sharp quality picture with no jaggies. Even at 2k res with 8xmssa I could still see some jaggies but you get the higher refresh rate which some people like.

Assassins Creed Black flag on my 5k res dell monitor and 4 1080ti's with 8xMSAA looks better than Assassins Creed Origins. It is sad, but yes MSAA is the king of AA that or SSAA.

Well if you got the performance to spare FC5's got SSAA of a sorts. Video, Advanced Settings, Resolution Scale.

How is this any different from any other time in the history of Cryengine? It's that Far Cry became popular, but initially it wasn't much more than a demo of the engine. An engine that's notorious for pushing the limits and being unable to be fully deployed even on top of the line rigs.

These past years it's pretty apparent we're in a bit of a limbo. Sure, some games showcase some advanced techniques and beautiful graphics, but it's all going forward extremely slowly. Same with the hardware, everything is being gated for more profits. It seems devs have more and more problems optimising their games, as even 1080 Ti's aren't guaranteed to get smooth framerates in many games of the past 2 years. I'm guessing this too plays a role in the slow advancement of graphics, in general.
