Not one or the other ...
It would be a minor cost in the overall production budget ...
Very shortsighted ...
Its not that they couldn't do it... they just chose not to. Its really not all that different. If your character could talk hed be asking a crap load of questions in order to get the same exposition or he would largely be saying " WHAT THE ♥♥♥♥!?" and "OH ♥♥♥♥!!" most of the time.
"but we also only give you only a handful of ugly faces, with no way of tweaking them"
"so there's no way to recreate yourself ingame and even if you were able to"
"there's no way for you to see your characters face ingame, so why bother"
(Also, this whole "the character is mute so you can easier pretend he's you")
(doesn't work for me, because who the hell would be silent in these situations?)
(Are we playing a character with crippling social anxiety?!)
Mute protagonists just always break any sense of immersion for me.
I'm never engaged in any of the cutscenes or conversations
because my player character is never being talked to, simply talked at.
The main guy from RE7 was quite bare bones but at least
he'd make a few comments about what's going on ingame
and answer back to the characters that would talk to him,
which added to the games immersion.
A voiceless protagonists only work if they give us text dialogue oiptions,
even then I'd still prefer the protagonist to be voice acted.
Secondly everyone bashed on Jason's character and FarCry 4's .. I would of done the same to shut up the fanbase.
It really isn't a huge issue. Inner monologues and a few dialog responses isnt that important to a game like this. Ubisoft probably took all the feedback of the protagonist being lame and decided to save thier time and money. When i started playing this game the thought never crossed my mind untill i read this thread.
I feel like people are trying a little hard to jab this game.
This fellow is blunt but not incorrect. People complain no matter what.
The opinion of an aggressive rude fool ... has no value at all ...
