Runs so much better than FC4 on the same rig, why?
Just curious as to why this game runs much better than Far Cry 4 does for me. I can hit almost 90 on average on ultra. I can barely do 70 fps on very high in Far Cry 4. I don't get why, because FC5 engine feels so much better to me in every way. Is it really just about optimization? Any game developers on here care to explain what exactly does it take to properly optomize a game and why does it seem to be SO difficult for most developers on here. Even the AAA ones that are raking in billions off this industry.

Optimisation

A big reason is because Far Cry Primal was really well optimized, so they were able to build from that.

Right. I get that. I am asking about more so why it seems to be such a problem for developers. How much extra could it possibly add to a budget when modders can do it in their spare time like they did with Dark Souls. It seems to be like it should be a no brainer to factor into a PC game because clearly it can make or break the game for a lot of people.

Well Far Cry 4 had NVIDIA GameWorks features which always caused the game to crash across several revisions of Windows and three different NVIDIA graphics cards. Far Cry Primal never had this issue and ran great but then it didn't have GameWorks... nor does Far Cry 5.

And guess what..? Far Cry 5 runs great for me too (Uplay version).

Great news. What are your specs?

This.

Dunia had, probably, some heavy improvements since Far Cry 4 (which did not perform bad either).

I'm interested in this info too, if the OP does not mind providing.

Specs are:

i7 5820k
2 x 1080s SLI
64gigs DDR4 ram
Asus Rampage Extreme 5
SSD
Win 10 64bit all the latest updates

Idk if it's just marketing but the AMD Radeon/Ryzen logo came on so I imagine if I had a Ryzen CPU and Radeon card it would run even better.

Also I noticed that it says it only uses like 3 gigs vram on ultra. Does any game use 100 percent of a system? I love PC gaming but for what we pay compared to consoles they really need to find ways to unlock the full potential. Like why doesn't unreal, crytek and etc bake into their engines optimizations that they keep updating with new hardware. I don't know much about game making and I am sure it's a lot more complex than I make it out to be, but there has to be a way to make it easier.

Why would you want to use more VRAM if the game is already maxed out on everything? I'm not sure what the point would be.

Also... There's 3 features that are exclusive to AMD GPUs.

Far cry 5 runs terrible for me, I have a 1060 3gb and an i5 4690k or something around there(on phone so I forgot) and it runs awful any fixes?
turokk Mar 27, 2018 @ 11:39am
The game run better because the texture is small than far cry 4

Something going on with you're computer bud, I hae nearly exact same build and I have a mix of High and Ultra, @1080p and I am getting 60-70 fps. Try a new gpu driver or try debug mode to see if a facotry overclock on the gpu is causing an issue.

What is your operating system? Run malware/virus checks often?

Well, you can always run the game better. 100fps locked woudl be nice. I didn't say the performance was perfect. Plus this was at 3440 x 1440. I didn't try it at 4k. Also, I was talking about in general. Why not juice up the options for people who have the extra hardware.

Fair enough. I get your point

this and 4 was very poorly optimized.. didnt matter how powerful ur rig is, can never go past 60fps

I feel like FC4 had some better graphics, too, though - it's weird, in certain areas of FC5 the graphics look fantastic and very sharp. Other areas, it looks like low-res textures, and very little environmental detail (trees, wind, etc. is very static).
