FC5 Has no Ambient Occlusion and no Post FX
Far Cry 5 has no Ambient Occlusion any longer and neither does it have Post FX. Far Cry 3, and 4 both had multiple types of Ambient Occlusion techniques as well as the option to use Post FX. This is something I have come across after looking at the PC settings that are available in Far Cry 5, that have been posted by PC Gamer on their official website. While I dont care about Post FX, as it is an option I have always disabled in all of the Far Cry games. Ambient Occlusion has a significant impact on how vegetation is presented. It adds more depth and realism towards vegetation and foliage, making it look more dense and overall better. It also has a huge effect on how shadows look and reflect off of surfaces. If you look closely at the vegetation, it is very evident that there is no presence of any type of Ambient Occlusion. So Ubisoft, instead of improving the game's look and graphical representation with a sequel, it is actually downgrading it with Far Cry 5, by not using any AO or having any Post FX in-game. So technically speaking, Far Cry 5 is graphically inferior than its two prequels.

I believe this has been a compromise made by Ubisoft, instead of optimizing the game and increasing the efficiency of hardware utilization, they are removing graphics options and downgrading the game visually.

Sure there are. Nowdays hardly any game is released without any post fx shaders. Even the most simple pixel art games tend to have them.

Ambient occlusion is just a fake way to create contact shadows and currently the only feasible way to do them. No-one has powerful enough machine to run real light calculations on real time. There are many different techniques to create AO and sure a hell this one has at least one of them implemented too.

The missing settings in the options menu only tells that they are not yet implemented in the menu.

Also, missing shaders does not tell anything about graphical inferiority. The assets can be made so good, that no post fx are needed for color correction or such. However, it's unlikely for this game to make so large leap in graphics that no post fxs are needed.

Nvdia will release a patch before the game is out and it will tell you what the patch is for. And a big game like this will have a patch just for far cry 5.

bullet holes are done using a post-fx shader system, as is the bliss barrel "smoke" effect. that's the reason why kicking a barrel of bliss yields some trippy smoke results that looks like it's out of sync with the world, and why bullet holes don't seem to adjust to surface angle properly at times.

It's been said before, but yeah, Far Cry 5 definitely does have both of those things.
They're not implemented as terribly as they were in 3 for example,
but they're there and easily visible if you know what you're looking for.
I came to this page looking for a way to turn them off.

No, you just came here(pun intended) for some necrophilia.

As you stated all was already said, so your input was completely irrelevant other than necromancing this thread.
