Peaches vs Cheeseburger vs Boomer vs Hurk
Who is the best animal companion?

Peaches is by far the most dangerous of the three animal companions, if just for the fact she will oneshot any enemy who she manages the leap attack on, even Angels or elite cultists. The downside is, said mountain lion has some terrible and buggy intelligence at times - game sort, not animal sort - and will dead sprint herself into gunfire, explosions, and hordes of enemies. She needs a bit too much control and guidance to use really well, but that is where she pairs amazingly with the other devastator.

Cheeseburger is a tank, he is meant to be a tank, he even draws threat and soaks damage like no one's business and if his artificial intelligence gets right rolling, he cleaves just about everything apart with one hit. The issue is, he loves to do long animations when combat starts and sometimes stalls out in them, restarting them on new enemies, other times he just chain attacks and kills seven peggies before you can turn around to handle them.

Throwing Peaches and Cheeseburger together, a phrase I never thought I would utter, basically balances one another out. The bear basically never goes down unless hit by machinegun fire or explosions and keeps every enemy busy while the puma carves through anything with its back turned. Makes perfect sense, especially since it lets the Deputy line up easy shots.

Granted Jess Black and Peaches is the way to go for anyone trying to be covert and have combat power, while not minding micromanaging allies, my only real complaint is that my supernaturally compliant animal companions aren't smart enough to jump into the bed of an open pickup truck or the open floor of a helicopter. These animals run headlong into gunfire, get hit by trucks, or buzzed by planes, and they are too skittish to go for a ride?

Boomer? Sadly Boomer feels like he's expected. Can't have a country adventure game with allies without the dog. Sure, he is the Good Boy, he has to be, but he doesn't feel particularly dangerous, only more distracting and much too flimsy to handle his own. Granted a dog isn't a warmachine, especially with bullets whizzing about, and more a utilitarian tool, but he does beat out Hurk for me.

Hurk is just too much of a "heavy" heavy. It feels like I am the one carrying him and his dialogue can get grating. Peaches, Cheeseburger, and Boomer never got grating, or my usual go-to of Peaches and Jess Black. What's more strange is Jess has only saved my hide like three times. Peaches? I swear I have been killed by something stupid, such as my truck exploding while on the roll thanks to the one thousandth helicopter I have seen today, and that cat just calmly comes over from nowhere and gets me back going again.

Boomer is pretty versatile regardless of playstyle. You can use him to scout enemy positions and plan your attacks. Its good to have around regardless if you quiet or loud

Pretty simple: stealth Peaches, loud Cheeseburger, exploring/hunting Boomer. I just think you can replace every animal with a human follower that is straight up better.

Boomer is awesome - but Peaches and Cheeseburger are who I run with.

CHEESBURGER. A ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BEAR companion. How many games let you have a freakin BEAR! I love him.

Boomer would be my second. As much as I adore peaches, Boomer is freaking cute as ♥♥♥♥, and he is also a total badass. Scouts for you, disarms opponents. GOTTA BE THE DOGGO

Sometimes peaches pounce on some cultist walking around just for fun. And then a pet her, shes a good killer kitty. I dont like cheeseburger since he has diabetus

Peaches, hands down this stupid f****k is the worst available character ever. As a Stealth Companion, she has a degree in waking up enemies from miles away with its stupid roars and moving patterns. She acts like an all out open-warfare companion most of the time with her identity crisis.

Cheeseburger is useless to me as a Stealth-Only player. And last, Boomer is f***ing awesome to detect indoor enemies that is not in range of my binoculars. That dog saved my life many times as I was about to enter a house head-on with an unseen enemy waiting ahead. Jess combined with Boomer, now that is all you need for some badass stealth action.

But seriously, fu***k Peaches. Peaches is for plebs that cant handle his own stealth business.

As much as I love good dogs, Boomer's special ability can be replicated entirely with a common consumable. He also tends to lose melee fights more often than not, meaning he is little more than a brief distraction.

Cheeseburger is a lot stronger, one-shotting pretty much any dude he comes across, but goes down way too fast afterwards to focus fire.

Peaches is the best, really. Doesn't call too much attention to herself, while still picking off a couple of mooks once the fighting gets going. Of course, that is still painfully underwhelming when compared to the likes of Nick, Grace or Jess. Better than Hurk, Sharky or Adalaide, though.

Problem with consumables is that usable plants are not nearly as common as they were in previous incarnations of the game. Stick with boomer and you will need not to worry about that no more-Plus he is the top doggo of 2018

I was able to keep my various consumable stacks up to max through the entire game. It's not like you need it for every fight. Mooks will just come running at you in a conga line once you've sniped down one.

I honestly did not need once: Give me a bow and Boomer and I was ready to go
