Your "story" keeps getting in the way of my game.
I will give them credit for trying to make the formula fresher by changing the way the story progresses; however it really makes me aware of just how much I avoided the story sequences in the other Far Cry games and only played them when I was ready.

I am not half-way through and I have been captured how many times now? I watch the RP metre fill with dread because I know it will trigger some scripted linear sequence that I rarely enjoy at all. I don't care about the villians. They are always chattering to me on the radio or drug/dream sequence. Or I hear their proselityzing on TVs or radios as I am in game. So by the time they are breathing in my face in a technically beautiful NON-SKIPPABLE FRAKKING CUTSCENE! I am long done (serioulsy in Primal you could skip every scene and it was made with the same engine).

I really don't know the story because I have taken to muting my computer and watching TV while the dialogue plays. Previous villans, especially 3, 4 and Primal had understandable motivations and you could sometimes root for them. Here, I do not care. By the time I took down the first guy from the SW area a cutscene started of him crawling. I could skip that one so I did. In game he went down with a .44 magnum round to the left eye and I was happy to think of it ending there. No death dialogue or whatever, just a hole like a dime going in and a dinner plate going out.

I wish I could play the story at my own pace. Not an option this time. Because it feels shoved down my throat it makes me rebel and ignore all of the work they put into those scripted scenes. I would gladly have back the "play the story to unlock the next phase of the game" format.

I actually don't think the story is bad, but the idea of having the main charater captured all the damn time sucks.

I have to agree that the story is kind of awful so far..

When will Ubisoft learn that these acid trip hallicination segments have always been the worst part of every Far Cry game.

I was hoping the american setting vs a cult might have them leaving all this unbelievably stupid acid trip garbage out. Instead they made it way worse...

Not only are the acid trip segments forced on you now, but the entire southeastern part of the map (Faith's region) is nothing but one giant acid trip.. If Dutch's tutorial island had been half as covered with bliss as Faith's region I probably would've refunded.

Bliss = worst part of FC5 by an insane margin.

Yea, this has been rather bothering me. I just finished John's section and he has captured the PC SO MANY TIMES. Besides the fact that I had no idea at first the capture parties were SUPPOSED to win and I kept running away from them.

When do Ubisoft villans learn that when your PC stupidly wanders through a door and gets a gun but to the face (in a scripted event I could see from miles away), shoot the idiot!

Repeated capture was a VERY poor story telling vehicle and insanely unrealistic even if John Seed thinks you are a key part of some major plan. When you've massacred hundreds of his followers and his lieutenants I feel like he wouldn't be very keen on the repeated "capture and release" mechanic.

They should have told this a different way.

I've only finished the southwest (John's area). After I finally shot him down I was free to look for lighters, do the alien related quests, and some exploring where I hadn't been yet looking for prepper locations. I do not look forward to what I assume is four to six more captures. Or the acid trips of the sister's area. I think I would rather have around 8 to 10 mini bosses all without special cut scenes. After you wipe out maybe 5 you can go for the main boss compound but each remaining mini boss will show up with reinforcements. So you can toast them all - however you find them on the fly - or if after most of them are down you're kinda tired of the game and want the end scene you can go after the big boss.

Yea...

This is what SHOULD have happened:

"Hey, we captured the deputy because he stupidly walked into a building he should have known was crawling with cultists and got punched in the face."

"OK, he's been a major troublemaker. Shoot him in the face right now."

I know, I know you can't kill your PC, but Ubi likes the capture storyline a bit too much for my tastes.

The most insulting part is how forced it. Like when you take over an oupost and pass out IN the outpost surrounded by allies and wake up in cage.

Faith's region is very a large margin the worst and is what wil inhibit me from playing again. I don't even understand what was supposed to be happening during her boss fight. What was I shooting? How did she mind control peopel from a distance? You never even see her in person I kept expecting to come out of a dream or walk into a room and find her on life support of something.

I'm not a huge fan of the capture sequences either. Once is fine, but after that, and considering the havoc I have brought to their ranks, no way would they let me live long after a second capture.

But, it is what it is, and probably has about a zero chance of being patched out of the game. So I don't dwell on it. I try to enjoy the cutscenes for how great they look, and then rush through the shooting sequence to get back to the game and almost forget it ever happened.

I do hope Ubi gets the memo on how bad of a forced progression mechanic this is and promptly drops it before making another game in the franchise.

Until then I'll just mostly ignore it, and lament at their bad choice on design, and hope maybe someone savy can mod it out for us.

And I agree with this one as well, but not as completely.

Did they not playtest this method of storytelling? I have a hard time imagining they didn't get any negative feedback about it.

Smh because there really is a lot of good here.

I dont mind the story, only the forced scripted events -_-. Like i am forced to avoid enemies so the resistance meter does not go up...

I got sick of John capture scenes. 'YES'...uh No. Haven't moved into other zones yet as I am dreading repeat captures there.

I agree OP, all the getting captured ♥♥♥♥ was by far the worst aspect of the game. I ended up skipping every cutscene involved with that crap.
