The game lacks pacing...you are basically always in the same state of emergency
The game lacks variation...combat plays always the same with tiny modifications
The game lacks anticipation...you hardly have time to breathe and think of what you want to do...most of the time you are forced to react simply
But graphically, it is stunning!
Edit:
The game gets better over time...right now I think the major problem is that begining...too insane to a point it almost break the game.
I posted a comment on a YT vid mentioning the same.

"There better not be another one for at least 6 years. 3, 4 and 5 sure look and feel very familiar being on the same engine. Keeping the same tag sound and semi circle detection icon don't help either. Given the amount of people in the world they could have increased the vericle and human variety. So samey. Though, I'd prefer the world more barron, so unrealistically busy at times. Too much of a good thing gets old faster."
It's fun for what it is but could have been so much more.
Yep, this. I'm pretty much in the same boat as the OP. I really rather regret shelling out $60 for this. I should have waited. I feel dumb now.
EDIT: honestly, I started liking the game a lot better finishing up the story missions in the regions I had already beaten. The insane spawns disappeared.
Also, I've probably shot down $100,000,000 worth of cultist aircraft. Where on earth do they get enough money to personally sponsor the Royal Airforce?
You will have enemies everywhere when you start a section and if you don't take care of business!!!
You need to be stealthy and take over ALL of the enemy outposts and other things in an area.
THEN and ONLY THEN will you have complete control and the luxury to go hunting and fishing to your hearts desire without enemies.
Play the friggen game!! Don't just ♥♥♥♥♥ about it!
The issue is twofold, really:
1.) The cult has a congregation that rivals the Mormons, and EVERYBODY is armed.
2.) You can mow down HUNDREDS of cultists and there is no change.
You might as well set this entire game in an endless collection of cardboard boxes for as much as you can relax and explore.
This would be killer.
I'm not holding my breath, however.
I love the way the FC games are consistent in their methods.
You need to go find something else to gripe about.
also, why does WW2 era aircraft excel at evading modern lock-on anti-air launchers?

You didn't read my post. If you don't take care of business, then the enemies are unlimited.
Once you take over all the outposts and other things like silos (in John's area), everything becomes very mellow.
So pretty much like every single Far Cry since at least 2? Got it... you bought this again, why? Did you PLAY any of the other ones? This is THEE game it's been for 4 versions now. What are you b!tching about?
In three and four I found the story engaging, making me WANT to continue. This one the story is getting in the way of the gameplay because it's trite.
