What do outposts look like on the map? I am trying to get them all in Johns region.

You need to find them i think, also some npc give information about outposts

huge plumes of black smoke rise from them so just follow that,or ask npcs

Also talk to everyone with a (!) over their head. They will point out POI's

Rescue NPC's from Evil-doers, after that, talk to them, atleast one will have a (!) over their head. If they run away or such, they are "in conflict" and wont talk untill the situation is over. Watch out for animals, they target deliberately these NPC's ive noticed. Wolverines do it all the time to me. I once tried to save a lady, who ironicly, just got saved by me out in the mountains, she was downed. Next thing as she's talking to me, I see a wolverine run up and start clawing her face. I start shooting at it, it runs down her body and I shoot her in the head. This game!

Talk to NPC/Sullivans they will give him for the locations.

Also rescue npcs from hostage vans. You'll encounter them randomly on roads, very often. Open the van at the back once you shot the driver and the van stops. Then talk to the NPCs afterwards.
