Or some side missions involving drugs.
But the whole ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ story pretty much hinges on a miracle drug that the cult just has.
He has a point. They’re a plot device in every one. Five games in, its safe to call them a series staple.
I mean...you are dealing with a cult in this game. Mind Control/Hallucinations/Drugs are a good 40-60% of how cults control people. If it wasn't in the game i think it would be more weird to omit a major part of what a cult does vs having it.
Hell, i would argue that it fits LESS into Far Cry 3 or 4 vs Far Cry 5.
Even then in the world of Far Cry it's both the only way to do more weird story sections and still slip it within the relem of the belivable and also it makes sense as far as power ups go. Not to metnion it was one of the few ways to make some transitions make sense where your character dissaprears for days on end.
As for drugs like booze or weed, like it or not it's a big part of American culture, especially in the back woods where no one is watching or gives a ♥♥♥♥.
If you can't handle opinion you should leave gaming altogether.
