it sucks at how poorly they tested this mission.
I don't think this was ever intended to be this difficult using a mouse, it was just poorly tested and should have been fixed, e.g., to use the keyboard instead of the mouse to exert pressure against the fish.
The further I get catching hard fish, I fight more and reel less. Early on, I focus on just not letting them get too far away from me. I never let the line get even yellow for more than an instant - too much risk of a tough fish picking that moment to get feisty and combine with the reel's action (it doesn't stop instantly) to snap the line instantly.
It makes the fight a little longer because I spend most of it at middle and long range but it seems to me that every minute you don't lose gets the fish closer to giving up.
Well if you want to do things the way they are meant to, thing is you're forced to use a basic rod you find in the little isle. All you need get as close as the shore you can (glitchy as ♥♥♥♥ when you swim back), reel in when green, and quickly release as well as moving the mouse upwards the moment he fights back.
In the end he gets tired. Repeat until you succeed.
Impossible & frustrating with my mouse
Stunningly easy with an xbox controller
Some people did it with a mouse, going to depend on the mouse and on luck.
Exactly!
I never would use a boat to fish a challenging fish.
Always do it from the shore and try to lure him to the left and right not let him swim away from your position into open water.
That did the trick for me. Even though I sometimes accidently jump into a small pond nearby the fishing area when blindly running left and right which stops the fishing as of going into swimming mode, so be careful about that.
But as you said, I actually get more fails on the boat than being successful either.
Takes less than a minute.
The host fishes, and the coop partner drives the boat. Once a fish is hooked in the quest area, it is usually the "Admiral", and the boat driver only has to "run over" the fish. As soon as the fish is under the angler, it is considered hooked.
Still thanks for sharing. Already catched the Admiral alone yesterday. Just took me 10 minutes with my method.
But yeah, if someone is able to move the boat then fishing from the boat is far easier for sure.
But playing alone it's just a matter of them when the boat itself gets into the way of the fishing rod.
This is my 3rd-4th playthrough and after an hour of frustration that everyone here has on PC fishing without a controller I had to look for help. I think previously I abandoned these dumb missions.
