Why are dogfights in planes so damn hard!? Any ace pilot pro tips?
Am I the only one struggling with dogfights? The AI has crazy handling of their planes, to the point of cheating. Since there are so many planes in the game patrolling 24/7, its difficult for me to every fly in anything but choppers.

When I start getting attacked by a plane, its nearly impossible to actually target them. By the time I pull a sharp 180 to turn around, their somehow always making a pass on me and shooting, they pass me, and I pull a 180 again, yet somehow EVERY time I turn around their already flying towards me and shooting. Its confusing, and the arrow goes berserk, its hard to identify exactly where enemy planes are. Turning around to look behind you is great for immersion, but I cant ever see much since the view is obscured by my partner or a huge empty seat.

Do I just suck at the game? Or are dog fights inherently janky in Far Cry 5? Id appreciate any tips or info.

It's a FPS trying to be a car game that then tries to be a plane game. You're not gonna get the smooth precision of a dedicated flight simulator. So in short yes the flying is lame.

They are not hard, get better. Seriously not to be snide just get better at handling the plane and they are easy and don't forget you can reduce your air speed with the C button. You want to slow down enough that the other plane is going slightly faster then you so you can tail it. Also to do a fast turn, turn the plane over to one side (A or D) and then pull back hard on the stick (S). You can turn around almost instantly, and I guarantee as fast as the computer is doing it. Most of the time though it's that you are going too fast and overshooting so the computer turns around. Slow it down and it is easy. Just don't slow down so much that you crash.

One bad thing about the planes in this game is that there is no tutorial on how to handle them. If you have played other games like GTA it is a simplified version of that.

here are some tips:get the self repair thing, when you come at it fire a bit above it, and when you are dogfighting have you top the angle you want to turn

Actually got the whole game within 24hrs playtime, and I didnt even focus on anything. Dogfights are as easy as the entire game is..

Yeah... your only challenge is knowing that you can edit your previous post instead of bumping your own comment to show how much of a “try-hard” you are.

This guy gets it. The "never ending circle chase" comes from you both traveling the same speed. Hit B until you are slow enough to barely stay in the air, itlle give you tighter turns. I also found the old Star Fox "loop de loop" is quite effective for placing yourself behind a plane.
So, basically, if i want to be able to target the other plane better, i have to become skilled with my throttle in this game? Sounds like a control change for the planes, given that i use a controller to operate them. BTW, does plane handling change as you increase in altitude in this game, or are there some planes that you cannot do a barrel roll in?

2 years old, and yes, if you want to be good at dogfights you have to be good at controlling your plane. also planes act normal until they hit the invsible wall where their engine shuts off
@believer in prawn: Sorry if i sounded dumb with the throttle thing, in gta v i just kept a full throttle in dogfights trying to escapes my enemy's missles.

that sounds incredibly stupid, i never played gta but wouldnt you want to throttle down to atleast below afterburner after you get an AAM on your six?

That would be true, but the number one thing used in gta v in dogfights is homing missiles, and the only way to doge them is by flying 'round and 'round in as tight of a circle as fast as you can until they explode on their own.

Basically a game of chicken in the air, until someone screws up.
