I have an issue, game breaking crash after intro when trying to change outfit in bunker after carchase
I have replayed the intro multiple times and everytime I try to change clothing in the bunker after being fished out of the water the game crashes, and when I reload I spawn outside the bunker and cannot enter it as the door is closed, I have tried reinstalling as well.
Anyone have any fixes for this? And yes I am a technobarbarian running AMD of that has anything to do with it

What GPU are you using? I had exactly that problem on my first run through because my original GPU was past it and not up to this game. It was pointed out by another who posted in reply as a known issue. After upgrading the GPU I had no problems on all other runs through, right up to NG+ INF Also, I assume the rest of your system is up to spec. Might help to know that

Oh yes, I could play the game just fine at medium graphics with only the odd lower fps during intense moments, it's when I finish the intro and I am fished out of the river after the car chase with that stupid fed, when I wake up after the cut scene the mission is to change the outfit, when I interact with the closet the game crashes, when I restart I spawn outside the bunker with the door locked unable to get inside it to progress or interact with the closet to change outfits and progress.

Yes, that's exactly what happened to me. It was the Graphics card. As soon as I changed that it all went back to normal. What card are you running? There was a known crash fault that happened at that point because of certain cards not being capable enough. It's difficult to know what to suggest unless you say what your system is.
You should have not less than 4GB of VRAM on your GPU, but I would honestly suggest 8GB as standard. However, this depends on many other things. What are you running an i5 or i7? How much RAM are you running? Etc.
My system is an i7 with 16GB of Corsair Vengeance RAM and a Radeon RX580 GPU with 8 GB VRAM. that plays faultlessly at the highest settings.
What have you got?

again the OP has not shared what specific hard ware he is trying to use ..that may help us figure out his problem

so ???

Driver version and video card type ? operating system ? Cpu type ? Memory installed ? software installed ?

please do the following if your posting about an issue with a game crashing or not starting,
post your FULL Steam System info .. this helps ... as no one can say what your problem may be until we know all of whats involved.. on YOUR system , we would only be guessing ....Ok ?

now look up top in steam look for where it says Help (right above the word LIBRARY) .
(you will need to exit big picture mode if you have it active in Steam) .
click on that (it will open a drop down menu) .
then clik system information .
let that load , only takes a few seconds at most ..
once that loads with your system information .
(this will LIST all your hardware and driver info.. its totally safe to post as no one can steal it .. its unique to only your PC build).

right clik on that window.
then select all .

then right clik again select copy (Ctrl + C).

then when you post back (Ctrl + V to paste) .

it will look like this as this is my system info file as an example ...

Guys, the game runs fine on medium, it crashes specifically when it comes to the closet clothing change in the bunker.
Let me repeat, THE GAME RUNS FINE UP UNTIL THIS POINT!
-=SOF=-WID99 Aug 6, 2019 @ 1:38pm

and let me repeat .. if your GPU is under spec ..there is your issue ..PERIOD .

sorry not gonna play ring around the rosy with ya .. if you have an older AMD vid card thats likely your issue

post your exact system specs .. or contact Ubi Support

remember older AMD vid chips , many of them no longer have updated driver support at all .. it ended in 2015 with version 15.1 , and sorry these cards will not run the game properly and yea its gonna crash ..

see

Note: Laptop versions of these cards may work but are NOT officially supported.
Latest WHQL GeForce drivers tested: 385.69 for all supported series
Latest Radeon drivers tested: 17.7.2 for all supported series

the other poster Venom had the same problem .. he also had an older AMD HD 7000 series GPU ....once he upgraded and got rid of that old card ...his issue went away

and even on my 6 gig Gtx 1060 the game uses a little over 5 gig of my 6 gig of V ram

without the texture pak its needs over 2 gig ..so yes your issue is most likely your older gpu or its drivers

I will continue too look for fixes then, if it doesn't work an upgrade might be the last option

pick up an rx 580 you can find em cheap now adays ..under $200 ,that should work fine for 1080 P high to even Ultra settings

note you may also need a better power supply if yours is as old as your GPU , but here is one for $185

if ya wanna see how much better that is .. look up FC 5 benchmarks on google

plenty of sites have em

that one should give you a good idea of what to expect

Jarl I'm still not sure you understand this.
You say the game runs fine until the "change clothes" requirement in the bunker, but that's not the game, just the end of the opening video sequence which launches you in to the game. Are you saying you can get past that point on "medium" video settings or it always crashes at that point. If you can't get past that point, you're not in the game, because it won't let you.

If the game crashes always at that point, then its a known GPU issue. I had that when I tried to run the game with my old Radeon HD6970. It ran the whole initial intro sequence up to the change clothes point, then crashed the second you hit "enter" to try it. However, you still haven't said what GPU you're using. So what GPU are you using and what's it's VRAM? Nobody can advise you without knowing that.
Jarl Aug 7, 2019 @ 5:14pm
It is not video, it is actual gameplay, like 20 minutes or so of gameplay during the intro

You're still not understanding what's been said. The gameplay (minimal) in the intro is not "THE GAME" What you do during the intro (which is a mixture of video and minimal fighting) is react to what you're given to do simply to complete the intro, which ends after the car crashes into the river and you get rescued by "Dutch". The weapons are given to you by the intro, not chosen. You do not have access to any other weapons other than those you find or are given. The intro only finishes after "Dutch" talks to you in the bunker after rescuing you. At the end of that dialogue you are told to change clothes and go and see "Dutch" again for your first instructions. NOW YOU ARE IN THE GAME. You then have access to all the other weapons etc. If your game is crashing at the "change clothes" point, you have not been in the game, only the intro.
I suggest you change your GPU, it's not compliant.

THIS MAKES MORE SENSE, I GET THE WHOLE I AM NOW IN THE GAME, WEIRD THING IS I CAN RUN MORE INTENSIVE GAMES AT HIGHER GRAPHICS. I THINK IT IS JUST CERTAIN COMPANIES BEING FANS OF DOCKING THEIR ♥♥♥♥♥

Yes FC4 was also quite intense and my old GPU played that at the highest settings. However, FC5 is more demanding, which was probably your problem. Glad you're now in the actual game.
