I may be mistaken, however, I don't believe we've officially unveiled this info just yet. Personally, I'd estimate that it'd be closer to 50 gb.

Has anybody checked their HD to see how much space the game takes? Gotta know before I buy it! May have to upgrade to a bigger SSD. Thanks in advance!

current is 26.6 gig on my SSD drive ..bought the Uplay only gold version

that size will grow as the DLC gets released over the coming months

remember your gonna need room to unpack the the files too .. 50 gig would be my total estimate once all DLC is out

Well the store page says 40 gb of of space needed. So i would have at least 50 to 60 gb of space free just to allow the dlc's. Cause no user knows right now how big the dlc's is going to be. Plus It's always a good idea to leave free space on a hdd/ssd so the drive don't perform slow. More so on an ssd.

I can't believe I didn't notice this far sooner, but Far Cry 5 is taking up 91 GB of space on my hard drive. Right off, skimming some of the search results, the first (and only so far) explanation that seems reasonable/possible is ... the game did not clean up after itself after downloading all the installation files.

While that would definitely explain it, I've yet to find any definitive information as to where these files are located. I haven't explored the Far Cry 5 directory much at all yet, but the folder I initially thought it could be was:

%whereever%\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\FarCry5\data_final\pc\downloadcontent

This is not it. This is the downloadable content that I DO NOT want to delete as it's add-ons for the game. Again, I've only been at it for about 5-10 minutes from my original Google search to looking through the game directory, so I'm sure it won't be too difficult to rectify.

I just thought I would post on here to let others know ... the game certainly shouldn't be taking up more than it's predecessor Far Cry 6!!

My Far Cry 5 directory currently reports it's size as 91 GB. Something is up with this... I found a thread on Reddit, to which I've posted:

Regardless, this is one of the only resources I've located so far referring to the specific issue I recently noticed, perhaps due to my uncreative search strings. It seems for everyone else, the extra disk space being used is due to downloading a compressed torrent which apparently doesn't clean up it's installation files once installed?

If, by that, it's believed the .rar or .zip file remains on the drive, this isn't the case in my situation. Not only is the compressed file no longer on my hard drive, but I've since obtained a legitimate copy through the Steam platform. However, since my download speed is horrid (probably laughable to some of you) I pointed steam to the already installed files, and just validated them in order to make it legitimate.

Kind of complicated, huh? I suppose the least technical, easiest solution would be to just uninstall it, wipe the slate, and reinstall from Steam, but again, that'll take about 14 hours or so. Not that I play Far Cry 5 often anymore, but it still limits other activities during the process. I suppose I can just load up a playlist of already downloaded xvi... errr... I mean... classic movies...

Still, I thought I'd be somewhat social and interact with virtual people for a bit today. Can anyone provide a bit more detail or explain exactly what files or directory in the Far Cry 5 game folder contains these duplicate and/or unnecessary files that exceeds the size of BOTH of it's predecessors?! New Dawn AND Far Cry 6 are both not that big!

Here is the link to the THREAD should anyone be experiencing the same issue. Steam should incorporate an option to "clean up" game files - like one of the right-click options such as "validate files".

current install space = 73 gig on my SSD / that's with
HD TEXTURE Package Installed
PLUS all DLC from the season pass and a few maps i downloaded , probably around only a dozen of those

but i have a UBI connect only GOLD version

Steam downloads files in compressed chunks and installs them , hence why many think they have a slow DL speed on steam ..its actually the files un - compressing + installing in many cases

my original post in this thread was from back when FC 5 shipped and i had no HD texture package , or DLC or ....maps installed ..back then yes standard game was 26 gig or so

also if you install any mods they will make the game take up even more space
