An explanation could be that both count as "multiple missions".
Weaves because of the switch from the main part and the arena. And Chaos Wastes because its multiple levels after another.
They probably would have to add an extra line of code to both the challenge and the end of both weaves/chaos wastes because the normal way of counting an "successful mission" is screwed in these as it would count multiple times as there are multiple levels. You know that they are new 'missions' when you just look at talents like "Job Well Done" or Grail Knights quests. They reset upon a new map not because its wanted, its simply just a new 'mission'.
Understanding this, makes their reasoning to just make those not count understandable.
I dont know a lot about coding, but I suppose adding some code to the challenge could maybe break something. And they just didnt want to risk breaking this challenge. I mean look back at the Grail Knight ult bug at the release of chaos wastes, you could spam the ult. And they didnt even touch Grail Knight himself in that patch if I remember correctly. So with this, we can pretty much understand that they could have broken that challenge in this way too.
So, when you see it like that, it makes sense why they choose this way.
Lowering the amount is not possible without causing several bugs. Like what would happen when somebody has 26 games and suddenly it goes down to 25? The game wouldnt see anything wrong. You can see this very thing if you ever look into Okri's book when playing on the modded realm (ofc there the challenge is disabled, its just to see that it is possible to get more then what is required).
It would just not accept that you did the challenge when having more then 25.
Challenges like the engi one that was "hit 20 headshots in a row" could be brought down to 6 because you did this in a mission, it only counts the process in the mission. Unlike the "complete missions" challenge. Those count past a mission. The counter doesnt get reset for "completed missions", but for the engi challenge it gets reset both after the mission and in the mission itself if you happen to fail it.
So lowering the amount of the "completed missions" challenge would cause all kinds of bugs.
Yes, it is something which has been criticized since the release of Chaos Wastes by multiple people:
https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/weekly-quests-and-longterm-okris-challenges-change-needed/44484/4?u=adelion
And even before, concerning Weaves. While we have no feedback on potential changes for the Weekly Quests, we have at least some words on the 100 Champion+ games challenges for the career hats:
https://forums.fatsharkgames.com/t/vermintide-2-developer-update-grudge-marks/46855/12?u=adelion
However, it is jst "looking to". So nothing is yet promised and we also have no timeline on it. If we get lucky it will come with the update on the 28th. But I assume it may take longer. It is on Fatshark's radar.
I've got over 1000 hours in the game and i only have 6 100 mission hats with another 6 over the half way point. So 100 missions is actually quite a lot.
However, should they cater to completionists or should they cater to the Average Joe who probably plays 1-4 careers or maybe even only 1-2 classes?
I think the main issue is more that completionists see this as a long daunting task and most average players wont even care they dont have another silly old warhammer models hat for elf.
Im a completionist, I dont have them all yet, but it doesnt really bother me because I LOVE the game and will keep playing it.
Why make it so someone who plays no Waystalker can get their hat challange done easily?
There are three parts to this game, Chaos, Base and Weave. It's challange for base game, it's great the way it is.
The problem is neither time nor difficulty, it is the lack of variety and the lack of incentive to play the other game modes. It simply makes sense from a game design perspective to lower it or expand it as to allow players to experience more content, especially the content FS is currently expanding on.
And also there is no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason for some of you guys to be so damn rude.
Does anyone remember a game called freespace the great war? The game had 30 missions, and the mulitplayer was co-op you guessed it. But hey, all you did was replay the same 15 missions over and over. If you did it on a high enough difficulty and were successful in the mission you got a medal. That was it.
You're being mighty optimistic with your assessment there.
