Red Shell Spyware?
Red shell is a Spyware that tracks data of your PC and shares it with 3rd parties. On their website they formulate it all in very harmless language, but the fact is that this is software from someone i don't trust and whom i never invited, which is looking at my data and running on my pc against my will. This should have no place in a full price PC game, and in no games if it were up to me.

Red Shell can collect the following to create a 'fingerprint' unique identifier for your computer:

Your Gamer tag (Steam, Xbox live, PSN, etc) may be used

Redshell also mentions that they do/have collect[ed] ip addresses

Operating System (e.g., Windows 10, Windows 7, Mac OS X 10.11.5, Windows Vista Service Pack 2)

Screen Resolution (e.g., 1920x1080, 1440x900)

Timezone (Based on offsets of UTC)

Language (Your computer's language or region code, e.g., en, de, en-us, en-ca)

Installed Fonts (All fonts installed on the computer)

Installed Browsers (Names and version numbers)

https://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/8pud8b/psa_red_shell_spyware_holy_potatoes_were_in_space/

I found this .dll in my V2 folder; steamapps\common\Warhammer Vermintide 2\binaries

I never opted in for this, so does this not mean you not only secretly collect information but also are in violations of GDPR in which users shall have knowledge of information collected and actually OPT IN for data collection?
What do you even use it for, why is it here?

Edit: While about DBD it pretty much works the same for Vermintide II as well, https://www.reddit.com/r/deadbydaylight/comments/8q1365/dead_by_daylight_is_using_redshell_spyware/e0fubg7/

Since the GDPR law is now in effect all services have to comply to a couple things that includes;

Users have to be made aware and have to agree upon the data collection

Users have the ability to request their data thats being collected

Users have the right to request deletion of the data that is collected

Services can not force users to accept data collection that does not improve/is required for the service ran.

Users have the right to opt out of any tracking involved that isnt necessary for the service to work

If you look at these 4 points you can see Dead By Daylight and redshell breaches every single one of these;

I personally was never asked if i agreed on these trackings

Where the ♥♥♥♥ do i even request this information let alone request to delete it

Let me tell you, whatever fonts i have installed whatever internet browser i use has NOTHING to do with Dead By Daylight it isn't going to help u balance the game either

since the tracking is done by a third party website the onlyway of opting out is emailing redshell and "believe" them they wont track you anymore

Whilst it's a no more than a tool we can use to improve our marketing campaigns in the same way a browser cookie might (although even less 'invasive' than a browser cookie), we can also appreciate that this kind of mechanism is frowned upon by you, our fans, and whilst we'd love to be able to break down the very ins and outs of how it works and how safe it is, we're not Red Shell and cannot always answer your questions or concerns as effectively as you'd like. We apologise that you feel violated and will note in the patch notes exactly when the library is removed from the game, but know that before that time the library will be out of action.

Thank you all again, and may Sigmar guide you.

I wish it were in my power to answer everyone's concerns in the detail they deserve.

I wish it were in my power to turn back time and forsee the problems that have arisen before they did.

I wish Red Shell would step up and help allay both fears and concerns with the specifics of their methods (it would be greatly in their interests as well as the interest of both their customers and ours).

But here we are and all I ask is that you direct your feedback towards us and avoid going for each other. <3 there is a wealth of misinformation being spread on this subject and it's.. it's frustrating to not be able to quell it all.
everytime i see you comment im really impressed.

keep up the good work.

.

let me put it this way, you install customers without telling, a tool that collects all kinds of data because you think you might need it or because the service is cheaper when they collect all the data. you don't inform them and you didn't think it necessary to have a closer look at the tool. there are also some very strange statements from people who either belong to you or are close to you.
attacking people because they don't agree to get spyware installed that you don't even know what it does. then writing them not to queue up like that, because (contrary to legal opinion) it's not data worth protecting was the culmination.

btw, its just one mail to opt out by this "service", the provide this information is not so a challange. i hope i get my data the next hours, let us see what is collected

Hello, thank you for the response and for your pledge to remove redshell.

There where reports that Redshell was included in the first Vermintide game as well. Can you confirm that? Does the quoted statement cover all Fatshark products?
Vermintide 1 & 2 and everything else, or just Vermintide 2?

Also, has Redshell been actualy removed yet?

Sorry in case i overlooked information somewhere if this was answered already.
Red Shell was a new implementation for Vermintide 2 and doesn't exist in any of our other games, despite what the media says. You can check the binary folders for confirmation. Red Shell is still in the game client as of 1.1.0.5 but it should be removed from the package in future updates (I'll need to confirm the technical aspects of this as I don't fully understand if that means next patch or when our engine next receives an update. I'll revert back tomorrow to confirm).

The DLL can be removed in the mean time without any adverse affects.

@hedge still with the point, the the collecetion is illegal, a fast fix makes sense. to still install a tool, you don't know how it works and what it collect is a "not clever" idea. if you deploy the file, it will collect data and burn the last trust...

I always thought, that people who are so scared about what websites they visited being send to 3rd party, they must visit some pretty embarrising (or disturbing) places on the web.

Just buy a laptop where you will have no games no spy software and watch cat porn all you want without fear :D

I've added a data request for data through the support channel. I didn't explicitly provide consent for marketing information to be collected or passed to a third party to my knowledge and I'd ike my data unrelated to running the game to be removed. I'll still play the game as I always have, but I'm very dissapointed in Fatshark.

My company has for the past year been putting in specific notices where collecting information about how we use it, getting fresh requests for permissions and never collecting more data than what is needed. As someone mentioned, you can't bury this in TOS now.

Seems to be. Probably a good 100 posts or more 'after' they said they removed it and people are still going on and on.

So this information sharing is a one way street? You will happily scrape our information but share nothing about redshell in return?

Literally just bought this game days ago and have already uninstalled / asked for refund. Way to go, game devs. Easy way to lose a customer.

If you want to do this, make sure you get both redshell dll's in both Binary folders.

I see a lot of people venting and taking action but you are the only one doing any real type of reee'ing.

You clearly don't understand people. When they feel wronged they lash out, it will blow over in a few days.
