Is slayer good?
Last I played I was getting rekt nonstop. People were asking me to switch before we even started and I've only been playing my iron breaker.

Then I got cosmetic head gear for slayer and I read he got some buffs in the patch. Is he viable? Can I get an answer beyond "Git gud nub"

Thanks

Slayer is fun, but not the most effective hero. So you have to choose one over the other.
Ironbreaker is the best tank a team can ask for, so I can see people getting salty if they get a different version of the dwarf.

Yes he's good, but he takes much more skill than Ironbreaker.

hes the hardest to learn, but also has probably the highest reward for doing so. you can look on yt and find a few of us soloing on legend with him with bots. haas gaming has a good guide on him as well. if you learn how to slayer, you will be better on every class in melee. he shreds armor like no one else, and with the right spec does the same to minibosses. if you want to learn slayer, you have to pay in blood.

he's really hard to master

Yes.

Pro Tip: You don't just go run into groups of enemies.

If you're good at not taking damage during melee then go for it. He can be somewhat tanky if you take the reduced damage talent.

Slayer has great crowd control & mobility using his leap and is a top damage dealer when played right. But the player I often group with who mains a slayer did have to learn how to use it properly. When he started playing it he wasnt doing so well. Maybe that was because ironbreaker is just so damn easy. The gromgril armor passive can get you accustomed to a playing style that simply doesnt work on any other class/character.

You do need your teammates to pick up the slack in tanky characters tho. I started playing footknight with a 2H hammer and my other pal plays zealot which seems to be a very durable class aswell. I have to admit that I do miss ironbreakers taunt sometimes, but its fun to switch up roles now and then.

When we queue up for quick play usually a waystalker/sienna joins and we are good to go. This combination seems to work rather well, but its offmeta.

Slayer has an incredibly high skillcap with little room for error. When played effectively, he can be one of the most powerful members you can have on your team. Half-ass him even in the slightest and he'll be about as effective as a wet noodle.

IB doesn't really do a great job preparing you for slayer at all. If you need some extra practice, put some levels on Salty and give zealot a try. Zealot actually plays very similarly to slayer, but is a little more durable and forgiving.

Also, while you should always take the dual axes in one slot, I recommed carrying an anti-horde weapon in your other slot. Your best bets are the 1-hand hammer or the 2-hand hammer. You can -kinda- use pickaxe with the slayer's increased attack speed, but it still doesn't work quite as well as these two.

Slayer has always been viable, but he has an extremely high skill cap. I've seen Slayers wreck everything in front of them but if you aren't good/make a few mistakes you'll be on the ground and asking other people to pick you up. You're also a lot more reliant on your teammates since you can't deal with ranged specials if you need to.

Slayer can be quite amazing if played right. I run Slayer with a Two-Handed Hammer to accompany the Dual Axes. The whole issue I've noticed with other Slayers is they lack some form of Crowd Control weapon, so they end up only dinking one or two enemies at a time in a horde with Dual Axes. Two-handed Hammer charged attacks can basically sweep out 5-10 enemies with a single swing, and often kills 90% of those trash enemies you hit, even the bigger Chaos adds. And of course, make sure you don't accidentally leap onto an incline, I've slid into a horde many times because of that.

Bardin only has access to a few CC melee weapons and the hammers don't seem to do that good of a job. The 2H hammer and pickaxe are both very slow, especially if you're doing charge attacks. The 1H hammer feels weak, but I haven't experimented much with it.

The 2h hammer has a pattern you need to get used to, there's a sort of rythm you need to learn to use it effective and that will allow you to dodge the enemy attacks as you swing while making the most of your return swings. This is one of the reasons Slayer has a high learning curve (aside from all the other ♥♥♥♥).

But if I have to constantly dodge back from hordes, isn't that bad? Can he hold his position while he's doing that?
