Brick Rigs

First impressions.
I bought this game because [reviews[ and [trains]. Ok.

In perfect honesty, my first visceral reaction to the game upon first entering the map is visceral hatred. First thing there was this button in the upper right that said something like "spawn vehicle". Ok. I want that... I'll just click on it and good things will happen... (I couldn't read the letter because I'm across my living room from my 4k TV.) Apparently it was "O" which, being forced to use QWERTY for this game, is on the other side of the board from where my hand is.... It's not like Stormworks where you just go up to a bench and point and grunt at it... The parts library was overwhelming and did not provide any information about the functional properties of the parts. I grabbed the first car I saw on workshop and could not figure out any of its technical details. I had to disassemble it to access the engine, the editor controls were awful, and I couldn't move the camera in and out of the thing. There were no layers showing me like "what are the functional parts" what are the things that make this work?

It seems that all ground vehicles are assigned a very crude model of how a passenger car works and cannot be edited by the player. =|

I made this as a tutorial, the editor in that other game lets you do things like "show me all configurable parts" or "show me all logical connections" or "show me all data networks". or "show me all parts that use electrical power"

Furthermore, it is possible to arrange power any way you like in that game. that car does not idle the engine and has only two gears. One of the trucks I overhauled has 8 gears. Another is electric-drive with a diesel engine. A locomotive I made is purely diesel-electric. With that car, I could rip out the clutch and drive it around clutchless if I wanted to.

So yeah, I am going to have to continue to hate this game until:

-> good tutorials on how stuff works.
-> appropriately detailed descriptions of all parts and how they interact with the creation being worked on.
-> consolidated and better organized controls. I mean it has as many controls as Kerbal Space Program but the defaults aren't nearly as good. =\ It just needs to be less overwhelming and easier to configure.

With great power comes more complexity but brick rigs isn't all that complicated for more basic builds. You will find stormworks is an exercise in simulation of everything, brick rigs isn't geared toward the simulation of everything, brick rigs is geared towards the building freedom which stormworks lacks.

You can look through the guides that are player made, there is only one human developer so i won't expect any documentation till full release if even then.

Use the context sensitive help by pressing and holding ESC and looking through the categories while in the situation you need the keybinds for.

After you spend some time with the editor you will find it to be pretty well thought out and similar to 3D modelling softwares.

If you enjoy the simulate everything like it stormworks you will probably get bored with brick rigs but if you want a total freedom in building you probably won't do better than playing brick rigs.
