Kraken kidding?? maybe REFUND
hello i bought the game today.. think it's really good... except that the octopus comes too often... every 10-15 minutes would still be okay for me...

i drove to the port once already the cattle comes again...
are you kidding me?? after 2-3 minutes he comes back...that doesn't work at all, it takes the fun out of the game... much too annoying.

consider whether I give back

And if you do get caught by the Kraken, a couple of tips:

- Focus on chopping the tentacles that grab you.
- Ensure you keep someone on the wheel to recharge your manoeuvre/flee bar even when it's grabbed you (unless it's life or death!)

And when you do get to properly fight it in the boss battle:

- Try to interrupt its attacks. It's tempting to go all guns blazing, but if you hold one cannon battery back, you can hit ensure you interrupt the next incoming attack.
- Likewise for the mortar in case it's next attack is underwater
- The underwater grab attack can be interrupted with a mortar next to your ship
- Probably best to have all-round weapons before the battle. Going all catapults, or all swivel guns will make it hard for you.
- Be on the safe side and use a Captain's Log shortly before the battle

Ah, just going into a port won't reset the timer unless you're being chased. In case it helps, here is how the system works:

- The timer resets when you travel between maps.
- If you go into a port, it doesn't reset the timer.
- If the timer has maxed out and you've got a message that you're being chased, *then* going into a port or leaving the map will cancel the chase and reset the timer.

It also shouldn't be throwing two Kraken's at you in a row - if it does that, let me know because it's a bug we can fix :)

ok ok ah port also being good ty.

yeah the kraken is fast as hell^^.. but good game

maybe some dlc would be cool :) i surely pay for a little dlc 5€ per

1 question i always have... i see some red and blue FORTS in the maps..

but they at me but idk how to attack them? :D

JereG Oct 24, 2019 @ 11:26am
Forts on islands are controlled by factions, you can't directly attack them. If you defeat the faction controlling the map, the coastal forts will be emptied. You can attack the sea forts(the ones that are sitting lonely in the water), however they are more difficult to defeat if your in the early parts of the game.

I've seen a few comments on it over the last few days - and although I don't personally mind it - as always I'm open to tweaking it if it's the common consensus.

I think the problem comes depending on the type of play style. If you whizz through maps, you might have it trigger once if you don't do the Cult events to decrease it. If you like to 100% each map, then you may have it occur more frequently.

So there's certainly things I can do to help take the edge off, while still retaining the "nudge you along in the opening story section" element.

I think my main concern is that I play games to have fun and relax for the most part. With work and family my play time is limited, my initial thought when this game popped up on my feed was excitement. However, reading about the imposed time pressure just for the sake of rushing the player changed my mind.

I thought about not saying anything and just passing but I figured I'd provide a quick data point as to what caused me to pass on your game. If the game is selling well and the majority of people enjoy it, its probably just not for me.

However, I would like to offer this possibility for consideration. What if instead of punishing players that go slow, maybe reward the players that move fast? Possibly time sensitive mission bonuses, the faster the player completes the mission the better the reward. You could even keep random encounters, but have them happen randomly and less frequent, with the Kraken being rare and/or contained in more dangerous waters.

I have not actually played the game so that may not work with your setting. But I imagine frustrating players players at the beginning of the game will likely result in increased refund requests.

No worries @Drelen, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I appreciate any feedback, particularly when it's rationalised like you've outlined above - it's helped us improve the game throughout Early Access :)

The timer is there for narrative purposes, and to provide total visibility (just in case anyone else has reservations and is reading this thread):

- It's in the opening part of the main story only (not Freeplay, for example)
- Of the 101 maps in the game, 21 are in the first region
- The timer is active in 17 of those maps
- Not all players will explore every map, if you made a direct line for the end of the opening section of the game you'd only see it in 9 maps
- There are three things that can chase you: Kraken, Ship or Haliphron
- The Kraken will only chase you for 12 of those maps (it'll stop chasing after Devilrock).
- If you're being chased, entering a port, floating outpost or leaving the map resets the timer.
- If you perform Cult events and succeed, the timer is lowered (likewise if you do them and fail, the timer will increase).
- The timer only increases in exploration mode
- The timer lasts approximately two minutes on normal difficulty (it's longer the lower difficulty you're playing).

All that being said, the goal is to nudge, not rush, and for some players that isn't working for them, so I'll extend the timer to take the edge off, as well as increase the leniency on lower difficulty levels.

We're rounding up a bunch of hot-fixes, and this will be part of them :)

I needed 5 hours for the first section and I had to fight the Kraken 2 Times and i explored all maps 100%, so I don't understand the Problem most People have. I play on normal btw.

People blow up the timer issue into something that it isn't. It's a minor mechanic that has very little impact and can be easily dealt with, as is perfectly explained during the game. I personally hate timer mechanics and this one is such a non issue to me. All it does is give you an extra encounter that isn't even that difficult and you have a ton of opportunities to reset it without fighting anything.

I was putting in my two cents, together with Elexymorph, to give some counterweight to things Drelen has heard so that perhaps they don't miss out on a great game should they reconsider. Or anyone else who is put off by the timer.

So you don't really factor into this. Plus if you say you don't care what we think and can't accept other people's opinions maybe you should follow your own advice.

Sry one last remark I accept your opinion i simple stated my point on this problem which I thought is normal in a discussion. But those 2 sentences of your are f..... funny first you say you don't wont to hear what we think (our opinion) and the you say if you can't accept other opinions the pls LEAVE the thread. This doesn't make sens.

I don't understand the gripe about the timer. Its temporary. And it shouldn't come as a surprise considering the similar mechanic is in FTL and no one complains about that.

If the timer is anybody's ONLY complaint, get past the intro. OR understand that this genre is not for you.
JereG Oct 29, 2019 @ 8:40am
I think the biggest problem is that people who play the game for the first time don't know about the timer being a temporary thing, they most likely think that it will last for the entire game.

Generally there are enough events on each map to make sure it doesn't appear at all until you have defeated it for the first time. At least in my game it didn't, and I explored every map.
