SOLVED crashing issue
This may or may not be your specific fix, but if you have any form of antivirus software running this could be causing the crashing for you. Try adding space marine to the programs exceptions list, updating the software, or disabling it.

This is confirmed fix for one user at least, if you need help implementing comment below

Edit: One major issue that leads to an easy fix is your BIOS. One member at least solved his crashing issues by updating to the latest BIOS.

Edit:
A. Interference from Anti-Virus Programs
It is recommended that any anti-virus programs be disabled when attempting to
install Space Marine. Anti-virus software can often interfere and corrupt
the installation process of new software.

Edit: Run the .exe as administrator and change compatibility mode

1. right click on game title in steam and navigate to local game files
2. right click the spacemarine.exe (applicaton type) and select properties
3. select the compatibility tab
4. check the "Run as administrator box"
5. change the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" to windows 7.
6. If this is unsuccessful change run compatibility to windows xp sp3

Edit: Disable your audio driver to test and see if the program launches correctly

if it does launch when the audio driver is disabled then the driver was causing the problem, in which case you need to update your driver,

or if there isnt an update available try:

Click Start, click Run, type dxdiag in the Open box, and then click OK.
On the Sound tab, in the DirectX Features section, change the Hardware Sound Acceleration Level to Basic acceleration.
Click Exit.

Edit: Try creating a new account on your PC and run the program.

If it runs correctly you need to change 'Fix' the settings on your previous account if you want to run it from there.

How do you disable to audio drivers? I've tried looking it up, but I've found nothing

deactivate the Soundcard in our Windows Device Manager. And Always exclude the entire Steam Directory from AV Scan, this is always right.

For me the issue was my AMD CPU processor is 16 cores. I had to use Ryzen Master to set the CPU to Game Mode which disables 8 cores and works better with legacy applications.

I'm getting Bug Splat crashes now as well. Since I don't want to disable cores on my R9 3950X, I'll just stop play this game...A lot of memories killing Orcs.

I was having the same thing, clicking the game mode profile in ryzen master solved it for me. I also have the 3950x.

Personally I use Process Lasso to simply limit the cores used for a process to X amount.

Also where I had consistent hard crashes in the game I lowered the resolution/settinvs, got past that point and then set it back again to move past it.

I tried the Ryzen Masters and set it to Game Mode, which essentially limit the 3950x to 8 cores. Technically I can play the game now, but the resolution is not cooperating. It defaults to a lower resolution, then crashes when I try setting it to 1080x1920. Oh well, it is what it is I suppose.

Interesting, I am running on a 65" Sony 900h with a 5700xt using a DP 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter, and am able to select 16:9 3840x2160 in the video settings.

You could try manually changing it in the settings file so it launches in the higher resolution.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\THQ\Relic Entertainment\Space Marine\

or windowed mode by adding -window in the steam launch options and see if it lets you set the resolution then.

A bit late to the conversation but I got around it by limiting the cores the game uses to 2 and by enabling vsnc in the main menu. Hope this helps.

First try to verify steam game files, there are some games that when you download them they miss some files. So you will spent a lot of time trying fixes and doing a lot of stuff but verifying steam game files will solve that; until today, I have found these games:

Dirt Showdown
Hitman Absolution
Warhammer 40,000 Space Marine
Saints Row Gat Out of Hell

Try it, instead of doing 1000 things first try verifying steam files. Of course if you already did, then start to do what others recomend.

For anyone wondering, It also could be the number of cores your graphics card CPU has.

what i did was opened the system configuration application in windows; I opened up the "Boot" tab, and then opened up "Advanced options..."

I then select "Number of processors" and I bring it down to 8, and restart my PC after applying these settings.

That's all... Just remember to repeat this process and unselect "Number of cores" otherwise you gimp your graphics card until it is turned off.
