Bolters... Don't use them. Ever. Dont use normal bolers, don't use storm bolters and for the love of god, DONT use heavy bolters on later stages, they barely tickle the big orcs.

edit- oh and Assault Marines, never EVER use the Bolter perk, it is the biggest waste of a perk slot going.

Bolter + Metla = a gun for ever situation

Best tac loadout is plasma riffle and melta with improved melta charge.
For me bolter and storm bolter is useless at last arena and bonus wave.
And killing blow doesn't work in exterminatus.
The plasma riffle is considerably better than the bolter/storm bolter - its near perfect accuracy and high damage so you can snipe nobs the other side of the map and if you aim for the head, kill them surprisingly quickly.

Not true strickly speaking

^ killing blow still increasess the amount of damage the hammer does in Exterminatus

If im remember correctly when i was using TH with KB there was no diffrence in amount of hits to kill a noob.
Machine gun noob dies after the same amount of hits 2-3 with or without KB.
And im too lazy to check it out.
For me better go with death from above which kills in one hit orc shootas.
With impenetrable it's a real livesaver.
And yes plasma riffle is the best especialy when you using that perk which let's you shoot all the ammo without overheating and if im remeber correctly it's called Hit very fast R button.

Plasma and combo my fav for tacticle. Heavy Bolter only good for maybe first two levels. After that you definetly need an upgrade or class change if you dont have one.

Yeah, Dev is pretty useless in the last round. I've seen lascannons offer some usefulness, but with almost no longevity unless there are at least 2 Assaults not also grabbing for that limited ammo.

The Bolter kills a basic ork in 6 shots, 4 with Kraken Bolts, Plasma kills in 2 shots without wasting a perk to boost damage. Bolter does have more ammo than plasma, but has bad ammo economy because of that poor damage. Kraken Bolter and Plasma have the same ammo economy, but you're still wasting that second perk slot for the sake of running the classic SM weapon competitively. So it's always better to go plasma for the sake of practicality. The same poor ammo economy goes for the Storm Bolter too, it chews through ammo like nobodies business, whilst the actual Heavy Bolter seems to fire 2-3 shots for each single round in your gun, artificially inflating its ammo economy. Plus doing more damage overall. Do not make the mistake of thinking you are a more mobile Dev. Also other players will resent you hogging that ammo you'll need to feed it.

Tom is right, TH might do extra damage on paper, but in terms of increasing your kill potential it does nothing to reduce TTK's. It's almost like Exterminatus wasn't balanced at all as most perks are a waste of time and others are impossible to be without.

TH is fun for assault, but the lack of running Zeal to actually keep you in the fight makes it incredibly dangerous. Though partnering it with sure strike and spamming medium stun ground slam does a lot to relieve incoming melee damage and is great for camping the spawns if you'd rather wish to get to the more challenging rounds quicker. Chainsword is definitely where it's at though, it's faster than the axe meaning you get to execute your heavy stuns faster (The axe can't heavy stun before a melee nob strikes) and the faster swings also mean you're healing faster. The axe has a nasty habit of being interrupted and cannot tank mobs of Skar boys either.

Assault marine will always have to run Zeal and would be wise to take Sure Strike. Being in the fight is always better than otherwise after-all. That is how he was designed to be and why pass up the opportunity to get the job done faster and meaner?

Tac will always want to run Weapons Versatility mainly because a single gun wont cut it, the extra gun means twice the ammo and ammo packs resupply both guns at the same time making for superior ammo efficiency. Plasma Gun is always the primary weapon of choice, but you get more options for your secondary. Stalker and Melta are both valid options, but you can mess around if you're good enough to pick up the other weapon's competitive slack. The second gun is more so you don't get stuck without ammo by the end of the round, providing you're swapping the weapons out to make the most of the ammo packs. For the final rounds i like to run Laramens blessing just for good measure. CSM Plasma spam is a ♥♥♥♥♥.

Las cannon is the best weapon in exterminatus especially at last arena and bonus wave.
It kills in 2 shoots havocs which is crucial for kalkys facility bonus wave.
Near perfect accuracy and it has piercing ability so you can kill couple of orks or bloodletters in one shoot.
Las cann can priority targets from safe distance which makes some parts of waves much easier.
Also if you know how to taunt shield orks you can conserve some ammo.
Yoa can easily avoid whole mobs of orks with dev jump and hip shooting them in same time.
Las cannon dev can take at close range encounter 2 or more chaos champions when there is enough space to avoid them.(hub center bonus wave)
Practicaly the only way a dev with las cannon can be killed is by suprise gangbang of chaos champions or getting stunlocked by ork noobs or when everyone is dead and there is nowhere to run.(most of the time is kalkys bonus wave)
The only suport sometimes las cannon dev needs is am with sure strike perk.
Maybe the problem is that many people are running around with iron halo perk which for me is a waste of perk.
Im always running with ammunition stores and lascannon capacitors perks.
More ammo and faster shooting or reload speed (whatever capacitor perk gives you) is a win in many situations.
