I tried installing that d8input.dll thing, and it didn't fix the problem at all. I start the game, the resolution of my screen changes, then immediately changes back and gives me the BugSplat error report option. Just like before I installed that dll file. What gives?

Either you are doing it incorrectly or you have some other issue.

Did you unzip and then take the dll file out of the unzipped folder? You need to put the single unzipped dll file into the folder that has spacemarine.exe in it. An easy way is to open properties on steam spacemarine library page, go to installed files tab and click on browse, it will open the correct folder the dll files needs to be in. Maybe you have double SM folders, in another launcher or something? Maybe verify the game files after the dll is in the folder?

Downloaded, extracted file, copied to game folder, no difference. :(
Turns out somehow my game files got messed up, a quick verification of integrity solved it and I can play the game now.

Thank you this worked, I did have to verify files and it did take about a full minute from start to splash screen but it worked.

verify game files with dll file in folder and it should work.
Sooo...why does my Steam blank out and reset everytime i try to select Warhammer 40K Spacemarine Anniversary to redownload it. I bought the original version years ago and played it. Then quit playing it. Was trying to redownload all my old games on a newer Laptop and this isnt normal. None of my other games in my library do this. But now Saints Row 3, 4, and GOH want to hijack me to Epic Games - their new owners. So that's new too. Is this a result of new owners FUBARing an older title? Spacemarine looks different now. The face seems different. I noticed audio of SM 2 and the main character (no, i dont remember his name) has a diff voice actor, not Mark Strong, and he lacks testosterone. So is this franchise completely FUBAR now?

So, I'm having issues.

It was working and now when I try to launch the game it changes resolution, I hear the 'Sega' sound it seems to just crash and then nothing but a SM icon on my desktop.

I tried the dll fix by following your instructions and have also tried verifying the game which keeps telling me two files need fixing.

I've tried that on numerous occasions with no joy.

So, just to clarify. The folder the dll file should go will also have other dll files such as...

dbghelp.dll

steam_api.dll

As well as the Space Marine launch icon?

Is that the correct folder?

Any help or advice would be very welcome.

I was having trouble getting it to run. It would show the splash screens, and the main menu.

However once I set my resolution and graphics settings etc, hit Apply, it would minimise and not come back.

Next time I tried to boot the game, I'd get back to the menu. The graphics settings were applied, but the resolution was back to what it defaults to - some weird aspect and low resolution.

The solution I figured was to edit the config file to the right resolution, and that's it fixed. The game plays fine.
Config file is on C drive.
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\THQ\Relic Entertainment\Space Marine

If I minimise the game, it will get stuck minimised, but the graphics and resolution are fine still on next boot.

Once you get to that file how do you alter the config file to the right resolution?

Chances are, that you have too many cores on your shiny new CPU. These need to be set to 8 to run an older game like Space Marine

Option 1- which require a restart (annoying)

1. Set number of processors to 8
2. On Windows desktop click Start and in the search bar type msconfig.
3. Click on the Boot tab and click Advanced options...
4. Check Number of processors and in the drop down menu select 8.
5. Click OK and restart your computer for changes to take effect.

Option 2- A more streamlined option

1. Download the Windows ADK.
2. During installation, it gives the option to select multiple tools; the only one needed is Compatibility Administrator.
3. Once installed, open the Start Menu folder named Windows Kits, and launch Compatiblity Administrator (32-bit).
4. Select the new database under custom databases.
5. Click the database menu > Create New > Application Fix.
6. Provide the full path of SpaceMarine.exe and give it a name of choosing.
7. Skip past the compatibility mode options.
8. In compatibility fixes select ProcessorCountLieForHybridCPU.
9. With ProcessorCountLieForHybridCPU selected click parameters and put 8 into the command line field then click ok.
10. Save the database from the Database menu and give it a name when prompted.
Select File > Install. Now the fix will automatically be applied whenever the game is launched.

I hope this works for you.

can confirm this works like a charm just extract and cut and paste the .dll file into your space marine folder

Same problem here, it used to work like 2-3 months ago, I just wanted to go back to the game and all of sudden the game crashed back to the desktop the moment I click "campaign" button in the main menu. DLL fix is not working for me sadly. :(
djc5166 19 dec. 2023 la 22:52
I'm sure there are other issues, the only thing that DLL fixes is the game crashing when your system has too many logical cores.
Same issue here, certainly has to do with Intel CPU generations, I've a Gen13, and a lot of older games do not seem to work with that. However - I'd expect the Devs to adress that, not having to download an obscure fix from somewhere that might convert my machine into a toaster. Meh, no more Space Marine for me, maybe until the 9th September 2024 :-)
