I'm guessing the devs intended for you to not be able to spam executions whenever you need them, because that would trivialize the entire game in my opinion.
You have to choose the right moments to perform an execution, usually for me that's when the enemies have thinned out. That's the strategy that worked best for me N E WAYZ.
That might've sold me the sequel, I started playing this because the new one looks cool but I was also annoyed by the long executions in this, I think I'm going to drop it and just wait for the new one.
Can you, really? Around... Chapter 6 (?) you are forced to change it for the Plasma Pistol.
I would love to be able to keep the Bolt Pistol until the end, and do a Pistol Only run.
Yeaaaah... I kinda just gave up on the finishers for the most part. I agree with you, I died a good amount of times because I was short on health, and doing a drawn out execution I get shot or hit. It helped me to think of it as Elden Ring and accept my death as an inevitability, but something I could try and learn from.
If it helps I recommend the Lascannon, Storm Bolter, and Power Sword. (If I remember my play-through correctly) .
I understand your rage friend.
