Launch Fix
I know everyones probably seen the video to fix the launching problem but it didnt work for some people. There is one file he doesnt download in the video though that is needed to make it work (in my case anyway and maybe others too). At this link

https://github.com/adrian-lebioda/SpaceMarineCoreFix/releases

If you scroll down, theres another file called d3d9.dll which he doesnt show. Download that one too plus the DINPUT8.dll file, drop them both in the Warhammer Space Marine folder, relaunch steam, verify game files then try launch.

This worked for me.

Late post on this, but I can confirm just the directx installer from microsoft worked for me.

I think this is preferable to downloading random dll files from githubs, so I would recommend downloading and running this installer first to see if it fixes the game before attempting to go third party.

hi is this the 'updating executable' error and what video is this please

It is just ridiculous and infuriating that I just spent as much as I did on this game, only to have to seek out a solution on Github. PC gaming in 2024 WTF.

The .dll fix doesn't work for me (I'm on Windows 11), and in fact the game won't launch for me at all with dinput8.dll and d3d9.dll in the game's directory. I've tried using them both together, and individually, but when I go to launch the game it instantly shuts down. The game will run without them, but it's a laggy mess. I recently updated my Windows installation, so I'm going to guess that Microsoft probably broke something again.

Well, I did a combination of things and it's now running, lol. I verified the installation and dropped dinput8.dll back into the directory just to test it. I had d3d9.dll in there from before because I was trying to run the game under Vulkan with DXVK, but I got rid of that. I disabled the Steam overlay and it's working seemingly fine now. I've only messed with it for a few minutes, but it's holding 60 frames. I appreciate the help!

Same issue here thanks for posting. No need for DINPUT8.dll, just d3d9.dll is fine.

I'm having the same issue.
I've downloaded both DLLs. I've tried them individually and together.
Disabled Steam Overlay.
Turned on Game Mode for my 3700x.
Tried with and without PBO. I atleast get the bugsplat error with PBO.
Ran as admin.
Tried compatibility mode.
Installed Direct X steam://openurl_external/https://steamcommunity.com/linkfilter/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-ca%2Fdownload%2Fdetails.aspx%3Fid%3D35

For those who are stuck with the "Updating Executable" bs.
Windows Security-> Virus threat protection-> Ransomware protection -> Turn off controlled folder access.
Only needs to be off for the initial setup. Doesn't show up in blocked history. Hope that helps.
